It's 50/50. If I know the person giving them, and what ideas they generally like or are entertained by, it's a bit of a tell for me to prepare my back-button reflexes or give it a chance and chug through it. I haven't asked for recs in quite a while though.

Haven't really asked for recs in quite a while though. For the most part I've just been browsing rec journals and folks' pinboards/delicious for things to check out. I find I become more interested in something when these people will talk about the fic, what it's about (without spoiling it ofc), or get excited about it, rather than just a link with a one-sentence summary telling me there's a ship in it.
