Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I know these things are old and lame, but I love them. What house do you think certain characters would be sorted into?

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
My eternal debate is whether Holmes would fit better into Ravenclaw or Slytherin, and whether Watson would fit better into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Very clearly Ravenclaw / Gryffindor IMO. Especially Holmes being Ravenclaw not Slytherin.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
BBC Sherlock Holmes is definitely Slytherin.

But canon Holmes is much more Ravenclaw.

Personally, I think Watson is a Hufflepuff, because who says Hufflepuffs can't be brave & badass?

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Watson is brave, but his most exceptional qualities are his loyalty and dedication.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Two of my friends got in an argument about whether Batman belongs in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
All superheroes are, by the very nature of their decision to become superheroes, predisposed towards Gryffindor, so IMO you have to control for that and judge them relative to other superheroes to get a good result.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
What about villians? Are they predisposed to Slytherin?

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

No. Some villains like Lex Luthor, Norman Osborn, etc, are, but not all of them have Slytherin qualities. For example, the Joker is totally a Ravenclaw, and Doctor Doom is totally a Gryffindor (IMO).

Slytherin's predisposed to villains. It is a villain training center. It does its level best to transform clueless little eleven-year-olds into villains.

God, the system's stupid.

That is a hard one! Bruce Wayne also has quite a few Hufflepuff traits (maybe even more so than Gryffindor ones).

I think Ravenclaw wins out in the end though.

BATMAN? As in, the original Batman, from the comic books? No, man. He's a Slytherin.

Slytherin doesn't necesarily mean "bad". But all he has done is driven by revenge and accomplished by ambitious planning. He's a schemer. Don't let Frank Miller fool you.

(Disney)

-Ariel is Gryffindor
-Snow White is a Hufflepuff
-Kida is a Ravenclaw
-Megara is a Slytherin
-Belle is either a Ravenclaw or a Gryffindor (I think she'd have pulled a Hermione, and asked to be in Gryffindor myself, but I could see her in Ravenclaw too)
- Mulan is a Hufflepuff
- Tiana is a Slytherin
- Merida is a Slytherin
- Cinderella is either a Hufflepuff of a Gryffindor
- Aurora is, well, I'm not sure, I want to say Hufflepuff, but I don't know
- Rapunzel is a Gryffindor
- Jasmine is either a Slytherin or a Ravenclaw
- Pocahontas, I'm not sure

(sorry, I've had Disney on the brain recently. |D)

Tiana is a great example of a "good guy" Slytherin! She knows her goals and how to get them. Pocahontas, maybe a Gryffindor?

Mm-hmm

See, I'm torn, because on one hand, she is really brave in the movie, but she's also really curious, and loyal (though to a cause- peace- rather than to a person, in my opinion), so she could fit in 3/4 houses.

Though, you also have a point with Gryffindor, given her cliff dive in the very beginning of the movie; that requires bravery.

So, I'd agree with you, and lean towards Gryffindor, though I could theoretically see her in a different house.

LOTR and Hobbit characters? Bilbo seems kind of Slytherin to me, while Frodo is Gryffindor. And Everybody knows where Sam would go.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
IDK, Bilbo could be Gryffindor or Hufflepuff. He gets braver over his journey and he wants the best for the dwarf party, which is why he went behind Thorin's back.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like Hufflepuff is the default house of all hobbits. Merry and Pippin are probably Gryffindor, though.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
With how Hufflepuff is described on Pottermore, it's like Hufflepuff was made just for Hobbits.

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
They're really both drawing on the same cultural touchstones in a lot of ways - the Shire hews pretty closely to being a picture of a sort of idealized English rural village, with all its virtues and attractions, and I think that same cultural base is where most of the characterization of Hufflepuff as a house comes from - extremely comfy and cozy and drowsy, bees buzzing over the fields and plenty of food, lazily watching games of cricket on the village green - that's the aesthetic register that Hufflepuff House is in, and it is part of the same cultural tradition that hobbits are mostly riffing on.

Alternate answer: this is why Hufflepuff is the best house.

I do this with my fandoms all the time, no shits given about how "lame" it is.

One I remember doing recently with my friend is The Avengers:

Steve: Hufflepuff
Tony: Slytherin
Bruce: Ravenclaw
Thor: Gryffindor
Natasha: I ended up putting her in Gryffindor but I could see Slytherin
Clint: Gryffindor or Hufflepuff
Nick: Gryffindor
Coulson: Gryffindor or Hufflepuff
Pepper: Ravenclaw
Jane: Ravenclaw
Loki: Slytherin

I answered here mine, some time ago, and I still mantain my opinion on these ;3

IDK with any of my newer fandoms, though. I feel like I have to RP a character to accurately sort them.

Attack on Titan, whooo!

Eren: Gryffindor
Mikasa: Would be Hufflepuff, but would ask to join Gryffindor to be with Eren
Armin: Ravenclaw
Jean: Slytherin (perfect example of a 'good' slytherin)
Marco: Hufflepuff
Sasha: Slytherin
Connie: Gryffindor
Krista: Hufflepuff
Ymir: Damned if I know

Annie: Slytherin
Reiner: Hufflepuff
Bertholdt: Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff

Erwin: SLYTHERIN. This guy is slytherin incarnate
Levi: Gryffindor
Hanji: Ravenclaw

Re: Characters'Hogwarts house

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oohh, good sorting!
I think Levi would probably be Hufflepuff though.
And Ymir would maybe be Gryffindor?

I dunno. I'd say she'd be slytherin because she's selfishly self-absorbed but she has little ambition, she's like hufflepuff because she's so loyal to Krista but has none of the other virtues. She might be gryffindor but she doesn't really strike me as brave or courageous.

I'd say she was like Mikasa and ask to be in hufflepuff because Krista is.
