really petty things that annoy you in games

i was thinking about this earlier because i seem to give up on certain games that are hyper realistic when it comes to movement, like having the characters flip around when they turn or move really slowly when they're pivoting and changing direction, etc. if i panic in the game and my character is hesitating as i dart back and forth then i tend to get shot and that gets realllly old in some games. i like realism but just... not that, honestly. i have more fun when the player characters are fast and maneuverable.

When you have to chase the enemy across the screen and it's more of a pain finding them than actually fighting them (*coughKingdomHeartscough*)

When the game doesn't immediately specify your character's gender and yet refers to you as a boy. Meaning I'm okay with games like Legend of Zelda or any game that has a specific, male playable character with no female option... but I HATE games that have an unspecified or unseen player character and the idea is supposed to be that you're supposed to imagine that you ARE the player character, but then it refers to you as male.

Yeah, that really throws me off especially when you're quite a bit into the game when it refers to you as male. It's like "who are you talking to?"

I agree with you on the gender thing. It's bothersome.

Generally half-assed storylines that make me try to feel sorry for some character. It's either a male and the women in his life died or is a woman and she's defenseless. I cannot bring myself to care about them at all. When I come across these characters, normally main characters, I just want to kill them.

In-character tutorials with meta dialogue, e.g. another character teaching you (as the player character) moves by saying "Now hit the X Button to attack" and junk. I know it's supposed to make practicing more engaging than being taken out of the story temporarily and having the instructions just appear on the screen, but the fourth wall breaking is just too weird.

I really hate it when I encounter the same voice actors over and over again in the same game. I get it, voice acting is expensive, but it gets annoying really fast. There are voice actors who are able to do several voices and you don't always automatically go "Oh, it's you again" - but even they have limits. And when it's bad voice actors, well, it's even more annoying.

I also don't like it when I can't play a game in the original language version, at least when the original language is English. I don't expect Japanese games to be Japanese, but my country's dubs are often pretty bad and I'd prefer to play the game in English if that's the original version.

Also, I hate it when a game doesn't let you invert the axes. Since you can't invert the X-axis in a lot of games, I learnt to use the non-inverted version, but I need the Y-axis to be inverted.

And a last one: Please, dear game developers, don't create games that think they're more intelligent than the person playing it. This whole "I know where you want to jump next so I'll just do it for you, whether you want me to or not" really doesn't work very well most of the time.
