Seconding many others in that it's not about his actual talent

He's generally pretty nice and charming (at least when there are cameras around), he's confident without seeming arrogant, and he's pretty silly and doesn't seem to try and take himself seriously. (As a side note, a lot of this also applies to RDJ, the other MCU fandom darling).

Against the backwash of most celebrity gossip, I guess people find him quite refreshing. I'm not exactly a fan/stan/whatever, but I like him well enough (I like pretty much all the actors well enough, though) and I can definitely see the appeal for why so many people like him.

I do agree with people exaggerating him and his talents/traits, but I don't think anyone actually buys the whole "this man is perfection" mentality - systemic hyperbole is kind of just a part of Tumblr culture. *shrugs*
