Meh, I saw it and didn't think much of it (I say this as a fan of him, but not one of the crazy ones) Perhaps the appeal is that he was willing to put himself out there and look a bit silly. Confidence can be a serious turn-on for some people

True. That and press junkets, I've heard, are usually boring as hell. I think he was just trying to find ways of entertaining himself more than everyone else. It beats sitting or standing there answering the same questions over and over.

Haven't seen the video, but I agree. Someone who has a good sense of humor, doesn't take themselves too seriously and is willing to be silly and make a fool of themselves every once and while is very appealing. (Not even talking about Hiddleston tbh, just in general. Hiddleston is cute though, I just get burnt out on him easily.)

I haven't seen it, but I think that's about it. I think a big part of the appeal of people like him is that they're putting themselves out there and having a good time, regardless of actual quality.

Secret 2 - Tom Hiddleston?

[Picture is... actor Tom Hiddleston in a suit dancing on a stage inside a mall?]

I like him but I thought this was embarrassing as hell. I don't even think he's a good dancer. Of course everyone is creaming themselves because 'OMFG I CAN'T BELIEVE HE CAN DANCE TOO HIS FLAWLESSNESS KNOWS NO BOUNDS!!11!11!!!1!!1'

Jesus Fucking Christ you can be a fan of someone without thinking they possess EVERY. SINGLE talent imaginable.

I thought that was a pretty good representation of that dance style? I can't remember what it is called now, but I looked up one or two other videos of it and it seemed to be pretty similar.

I thought his dancing was all right. I've certainly seen much worse, haha.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't usually care about him much, but I thought his dancing was pretty adorable. I'd rather see him doing that than the velociraptor thing.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Does it matter? His singing is totally crap too in that car karaoke video. It's the fact that he's being a good sport and putting himself out there.

I like that he just goes and does things like dancing. It's endearing. Having said that, I can't watch him do it all the time as I start to get a bit of second hand embarrassment. Still, it's all in fun and his hip swerving makes fans happy, no no harm no foul.

Who is this guy? Why does he have so many post-it notes? Is he in a mall?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
he is so fucking up himself. I hate him

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Tom's a bad singer/dancer, but he KNOWS he is, doesn't care, and milks it anyway.

That is what I like about him.

I love Hiddles a lot more than is probably healthy. I adore his free spirit and good humor, which includes his dancing every chance he gets. (I love the way those long limbs move.) But I do think he should have been more aware of his surroundings and toned it down a bit before he started, like, kicking over chairs.

And I'm the first to point out that can't sing at all. Voice lessons, baby.

Seconding many others in that it's not about his actual talent

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-12-10 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
He's generally pretty nice and charming (at least when there are cameras around), he's confident without seeming arrogant, and he's pretty silly and doesn't seem to try and take himself seriously. (As a side note, a lot of this also applies to RDJ, the other MCU fandom darling).

Against the backwash of most celebrity gossip, I guess people find him quite refreshing. I'm not exactly a fan/stan/whatever, but I like him well enough (I like pretty much all the actors well enough, though) and I can definitely see the appeal for why so many people like him.

I do agree with people exaggerating him and his talents/traits, but I don't think anyone actually buys the whole "this man is perfection" mentality - systemic hyperbole is kind of just a part of Tumblr culture. *shrugs*

To be fair, he appeared to be dancing Jumpstyle and that isn't known for being very sophisticated... a couple of years ago, my country touted it as "THE dance of the youth" and teenagers were dressing accordingly, calling themselves "Krocha" and so on. It was a dark time, so I tend to not think very highly of it tbh :|

I don't think he's a terriblle dancer but I'm awful so almost anyone is better than me. As other have said the appeal is probably his not caring and just having fun. That said I did cringe a bit at his recent appearances where he danced because I always do at things like that. And let's just say Alan Carr's reaction was...interesting.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it really embarrassing if everyone approves?
