finals thread

[personal profile] diet_poison 2013-12-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone else here looking at semester finals for high school or college this week or next?

What classes do you have tests in? Any where you have a project or paper instead? Which ones are you nervous about? What should you be studying RIGHT NOW instead of being on Fandom Secrets?

I have exams in zoology, organic chemistry and cell biology. I'm pretty stressed about all of them - they're all very information-heavy classes, and I've fallen behind in them. Fortunately I don't have any tests until Thursday, so I have a little more time to prepare. I should be going through chem right now (I have a method for working through the material) but my roommate covered up the coffee table (the place where it's easiest to spread out my shit) with her craft stuff, then vacated the room for long stretches of time and still isn't done with it after like four hours. I guess I should just go to my room, which is way less comfortable, but...semester grades don't take excuses :(

I hope I do well enough to not have to retake anything this semester. I'm supposed to be graduating in May and I want to get the hell out of Dodge.

Sometime after finals are over I'll make a post about my general feelings about college and the inanity of the American university system since I think a lot of people can relate.

I have three finals this week; just had my organic chemistry one (failed it, probably, going to retake the class next semester), math tomorrow, and human sexuality and development on Thursday. And then on top of that, it snowed last Friday, but it hasn't gotten warm enough for the snow to melt, so I have to take the buses to my finals which doesn't help with my studying time. (I try to study on the bus, but I also get carsick, so I have to be careful.)

I take the shuttle to class on a regular basis, to save gas and because it can be very difficult to park near my classes. I usually just read or play a game on the bus, even though it's a 15 min. ride...even if I wanted to study on it, there's often not enough room. It can get really packed.

Ochem can be a bitch. It's actually easier than my other two classes, but it can be very unforgiving if you fall behind. There's less info and more concept though than the other two by far, so it requires less time input. Possibly my biggest concern will be getting there on time since it's at 7:30AM. (I will have to drive to this since the shuttle actually doesn't start early enough for me to get there! But parking spaces are easy to find so early in the day.) It's also my last one so after that I can focus on going hoooome :D

Best of luck!

It's normally not as long of a trip; usually it's 15~20 minutes at the most, like you said, but with the snow and the ice, it's running closer to an hour. |D

Nice! Good luck with all of them!

holy balls that is...wow

tripling/quadrupling trip time? it must be really, really, REALLY bad

no salt/plows? is it just too much for that?

Re: finals thread

There was sanding done on couple of streets, but most of what it is is that this is the first time in a couple of years where the snow has stuck around for more than a day; last year, for example, it snowed one night, was there the next day, but was mostly melted morning after that. This time, though, it snowed on Thursday night/friday, we can maybe 6~8 inches? (I'm bad at judging, but it completely covered my hand, and then went up a couple inches on my wrist), and then it's been hovering at around 18~25F during the day, so the snow isn't melting. (On the plus side, that means that it's not melting, then refreezing overnight and icing everything up.)

Because snow usually doesn't stick around this long, we don't really have plows, and while the streets around the campus were sanded, the streets farther out (where I live) were not, because that's not the center of commerce and stuff.

It's frustrating, but I can see why it's happening? I just wish it wasn't.

I have exams and two short papers for vertebrate biology and its lab, and a paper for insect ecology that I've put off for waaaaaay too long. Vert bio is that kind of class too--though nothing near as bad as organic chemistry. And the text is a real slog to read.

I'm taking vert zoology which is probably close to the same thing, though I think it's actually more daunting than ochem because of the sheer volume of information. Might be set at a different point in the curriculum than yours.

See, I'm decent at fitting all that information into a mental framework I can organize as I need to. The names for types of swimming and degrees of oscillatory/undulatory motion in each? The Optimal Foraging Model? Vertebrate phylogeny? No problem. But ochem kicked my ass.

I can definitely remember all that shit; the trouble is taking the time to read and assimilate the information. My study habits are pretty shitty. I actually rather miss homework (a la book questions like I did in high school).

I finished all my stuff yesterday. I had final critique periods in drawing and 2-d design, an exam in history, and four essays for English. That's just not right. :T But at least I am free, freeeeee, until January.

Good luck on your exams! \o/

That's a lot, but it must feel extra awesome to have it over with!!!!

Jealous that you are done, but I will be too in two and a half days and it will be awesome!

Thanks! :D

Currently writing my last exam for the semester, in Examen Philosopicum (also known as Philosophy and Argument Theory for Film and Television students) which is one of two required subjects* for all Bachelor students in Norway, so I am just hating life and not writing anything. It has to be handed in on Friday, so I have to get some more done tomorrow, and also find one of my lecturers to ask him a question...

Good luck on your exams!

*Ex. Phil is as in Philosophy, I am lucky to go to a school where they have the subject a bit more specified for each major (Or whatever you call 'em) instead of just general Philosophy.

Oh man. So much grading to do. :( And most of it isn't due until the last day, and I'll only have 24 hours to grade it all. Trying to grade everything as it trickles in, but most students will wait until the very end to turn things in. Which is fine, but will make for a looooooooong day on Monday. :)

Good luck with your exams.

I had finals in my German, Soc, and Cinema class and I took my last one today! I had a final paper in English which I got back and did well on. I'm basically done except for a few minor things and it's time to somewhat relax until January.

I'm pretty sure I aced my oral korean final today! however I do have the written final coming up, along with speech, english, and psychology. and of course, having four, they have to fall two to a day. there's an entire week of finals, so why did mine turn out like this?? OTL
