I think it's fascinating that BBT has sky-high ratings and yet the online fandom is more or less dead. This show might have millions of "viewers", but it no longer has fans, and I find that very telling. I keep coming across BBT-themed sites, tumblrs, et cetera, that haven't been updated in two or three years. The number one show in the country isn't even in the top 50 fandoms on FF.net.
It really shows how Internet fandom is a different group of people (more discerning?) than the general public.
This might sound paranoid, but the show itself seems to discourage any non-canon shipping or thinking outside the box, and that's not conducive to writing fanfic or other creative endeavors on the part of fans.
