It bothers me because there tends to be so many male characters already that it hints the side of lady removal.

I wouldn't mind if it was, say a full genderswitch of all characters...but when it comes to one female character as a boy I get :/ ...especially if they're the protag. I'll backspace that :C and maybe feel resentful.

Yeah, this is spot on for me.

This. OT but I also get upset when an otherwise awesome female character has her looks mentioned, whether she is plain or pretty, because I am just so sick of that kind of scrutiny. It just feels like a dig at women either way: competent women are too often "softened" with good looks (but it's a ~compliment! women can have it all!), and plain-janes get caught up in adventure because fate has to throw them a bone to even things out. Ughhhhhhh.

It always bothers me when a work focuses on a female character's physical appearance but all we get of the dudes is an adjective or two (eg. Bob is tall, Gilgamesh is strong, Timmy has sandy hair, and Alice is medium height, wears cute jeans and a sweater, has red wavy hair which she wears long and loose expect when she's killing dragons she puts it in a bun, and she has vividly described brown eyes and a small nose and bright red lips and and and ....)

I'm totally cool with it, though, if the work describes the dudes' physical appearance to the same extent, but I see less and less of that in modern works.
