A few months ago there was an anime classroom chart that showed what type of character usually sits where (like the main character sitting toward the back left by the window so they can stare out it). Now I look for the patterns in every anime I watch and screencap them. I also screencap breaks in the pattern.

I'm surprised that only anime has it, actually, considering that being bored out of your mind in class is probably an universal constant amongst all humanity.

Sure, but they get so much out of such a simple thing - it seems to care so much significance in anime, aesthetic and, really, moral.

Apparently it's so the animators can focus on the protag and don't have to animate the rest of the classroom full of students.
