I want to write a book about growing up with a disability, but I'm scared that if I do, and it achieves any kind of success, that's all I'll ever be known for. I worry that makes me a hypocrite. :/

I don't see how it would make you a hypocrite? I say go for it!

AYRT

I think it's hypocritical of me to worry that if I wrote about having a disability, I'd be known as the author with X, because then I feel like I'm kind of defeating my own purpose. But I'm also tired of people writing about disabilities like they're a death sentence.

I guess that I kind of see your point. I still say go for it, especially if you want to write it to show that being disabled isn't some sort of death sentence. Or a negative thing in general.

It's not bad or wrong to want to be known for all the amazing stuff that you are instead of just being "the spokesperson for X!"

If you're really worried about this, consider using a pen name. You'll get to write your book about X while still getting to retain a certain amount of privacy.

Good luck!
