[Glee]

They laugh at the sexual assault of Brittany as well, so it's not just that "it's only funny for guys"... it's apparently also funny if it happens to some one who was clearly incapable of understanding or consenting.

But yeah the Blaine scene was CREEPY. Also Blaine got away with drunkenly pushing himself on Kurt and ignoring "no" and that seemed to never have any consequences.

This show sucks.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
If the Brittany part you're talking about is the one I think it is, she was perfectly capable. Exaggerated stupidity played for laughs in a comedy =/= mental disability.

I hate Glee too by the way, just saying.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
She spoke about the assault and it was clear she was MENTALLY INCAPABLE OF CONSENT. The guy lied to her, raped her, and left... using her stupidity (exaggerated for humor or not) against her by lying to get away with it. How is that NOT creepy and rapey as fuck? Even IF the character's stupidity is ridiculously done, it doesn't stop it from being WRONG to use it for "lol she can't consent to sex with a stranger"

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, Blaine was not assaulting Kurt. And Kurt was completely in charge of that situation, he had a handle on it. Kurt was enjoying it until he realized Blaine actually wanted it to be their first time, and that's not what Kurt wanted. But I'm tired of people acting like Kurt isn't capable of taking care of himself and telling Blaine no. He told him, got up, and Blaine was pissed, but he walked away. Had it been as bad as you're making it sound, Blaine would have pushed Kurt against the car and made it worse.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that Blaine didn't stop when Kurt told him to several times, and that Kurt had to physically push him away, makes it sexual assault.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
yeah some guy trying to force you into something you're not comfortable with and refusing to listen until you get upset and then getting pissed off because you were turned down and storming off... yeah Kurt was totally in control and Blaine was a fucking saint. it's okay guys, it wasn't assault ENOUGH, it's okay now! jfc

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
No one said anything about Kurt "taking care of himself" and you insisting he could reeks of victim-blaming bullshit. So, what, anyone who IS assaulted was just weak and incapable? Kurt is a capable, strong person. That does not magically prevent his boyfriend from being a pushy asshole who should have respected Kurt's boundaries without getting angry.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
i stopped watching this show, did the guys EVERY apologize to that one kid (i forget his name) who confessed to the Glee club that his female babysitter assaulted him as a kid and they were all like "dude you're so lucky, that's awesome" and the girls pointed out that IT WAS ASSAULT AND VERY BAD and they laughed her off and then... the episode ended with no follow-up whatsoever? i was so fucking pissed i dropped the show right then

That's the episode I dropped the show too. No regrets.

...well, possibly some regret that I hadn't dropped it well before that.

And no, from everything I've heard, it hasn't been mentioned since :|

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Whaaaaaat

I haven't seen any of the new season and I stopped midway in season 4 so, I knew about Ryder (I think that's who it was?) saying he got molested as a kid but I didn't know that's how it played out. Holy crap that's horrible.

There was apparently ANOTHER consent issue in the most recent episode, from what I heard. So glad I don't watch this show anymore

PS the Blaine/Tina thing was horrifying I remember seeing it and freezing up thinking Glee was about to take a very very bad turn. Luckily it didn't go as far as it seemed it was going to, but it was still. No.

I dropped the show when they made the joke about Brittany getting sexually assaulted and never challenged it. I really doubt that they followed up on it.

I can't even remember, but they probably didn't. Poor Rider, the guys were such ginormous assholes to him in that episode. They should have all been kicked out of Glee club for their comments.

Glee lacks continuity so much.

I still watch the show (why, I don't know) but that was never mentioned again. No apologies or anything. Ryder pretty much fell into the background except for now, when he's being kind of pushy towards the character he has a crush on.

Why do I still watch this show.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, when I watched this show a few years ago (only a handful of episodes), it seemed like a pretty harmless, cheesy show. What happened?! Every time I hear about it, it seems to get more and more fucked-up and terrible :/

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
The first episode had a girl getting a teacher fired for inappropriately touching another student, what show were you watching?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
that's... good though? inappropriately touching a student SHOULD get you fired. in season 1 Glee, it did. in Glee NOW? it's ignored. Will is creepy around his students all the damn time and the only character to SORT of mention that it's inappropriate is Sue (used to be the over-the-top villain, now the only voice of reason left... while also randomly being over-the-top in wildly offensive ways)

But then it was making it clear that the situation was pretty fucked up. Later they make casual jokes of sexual assault.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, one thing, I clearly said I watched it years ago and I could count how many times I watched it on my fingers. I can't remember episode details. This is purely based on what I remember my impressions being.

Secondly, from what I've HEARD (I do not watch the show), sexual assault is treated as a joke and various other problematic things happen without acknowledgement from the writers. A teacher being fired for touching a student is showing awareness that sexual assault is bad.

And given that the episodes I watched had a good mix of serious storylines and humour, I don't think a story like that necessarily negates the fact that it seemed like a fun show that didn't take itself too seriously.

All Tina did was rub some vapor rub on his chest when he was feeling sick.

Blaine actually forced himself on Kurt when he was drunk. That was more sexual assault than what Tina did.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
dude she straddled him to do it. vapor rub = fine, he was sick. straddling a guy while he's sleeping? CREEPY AS BALLS.

i do think what Blaine did was also awful, but it doesn't make what Tina did okay or better. and they BOTH should have been called out for it and weren't. it's bullshit all around.

warning for sexual assault - Secret 12 - Glee

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
warning for sexual assault

[Picture is Tina Cohen-Chang, as portrayed by the actress Jenna Ushkowitz, from the TV series "Glee". She is a young woman with light skin and long dark hair with some blue streaks dyed in. She is wearing a dark vest, arm bands and hat, along with a tartan skirt or pants/trousers (the picture is covered by text).]

Obviously, the show wasn't much good to begin with and she wasn't my 'favorite' character, but at least her character used to be 'likable'. I think the new season is total shit. But one of the things I hate the most about it is how they turned her from 'being a minor character, but she has some characters traits' TO: Doing nothing but shrieking and being obsessed with Blaine and literally being defined by nothing except that. Oh and she wears black sometimes.

Oh and let's not forget, let's have her do something that DEFINITELY WOULD BE CONSIDERED SEXUAL ASSAULT if done to a girl, but because she's a lady and wuvs him so much it's okay and the fact she continues to be obsessed with the guy she did it to isn't weird at all. And let's reference it AGAIN just for ha has because SEXUAL ASSAULT IS HILARIOUS IF IT'S DONE TO A GUY.

Sorry for the wall of text, I just thought that plotline was particularly shitty.

Even for Glee, which is known for its lack of character consistency, this is bad.

I quit at the start of this season, but by the prom episode they had basically gutted her character. Like, great that she's being shown as more of a major character, but are we even supposed to be rooting for her here? Because I wasn't.

Wah wah wah.
