Secret 1 - Yu-Gi-Oh! (trading card game)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is four cards from the trading card game "Yu-Gi-Oh!". They are "Ritual Guardian Phelasia", showing a young woman with bright orange hair and wielding a staff with fire, "Black Luster Soldier", showing a warrior in a badass armor, "Ritual Raven" showing a creepy thing with two masks, and "End of the World", showing an hexagon thing beaming down reality warping magic things on a city, destroying it.]

I haven't played this game in years. A recent comment in this community made me feel incredibly nostalgic about it, and want to play it again.

The problem? In the years since I've stopped playing, I've become much more aware of the stereotypes associated with card players, and I really don't want to be associated with that.

Secret 2 - Bridesmaids (film)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Annie, as portrayed by the actress Kristen Wiig, from the film "Bridesmaids". She is an elegantly dressed woman smiling kind of questioningly as she clutches the skirt of a pastel-pink dress on exhibition.]

I didn't find Bridesmaids funny. I found it really sad and depressing.

We're supposed to see her as unreasonable and selfish (and, if forums are anything to go by, most people who watched it did) but I thought everyone in the film treated her like crap and her attitude was completely justified as a result of it. I relate to that so much. [sad face emoticon]

Secret 3 - The Hobbit (Peter Jackson films)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the dwarves from the "The Hobbit" films hiding inside wooden barrels.]

I could happily watch three straight hours of just (1) dwarves fighting orcs while riding in barrels and (2) Radagast haring around. Maybe some cameos from the admittedly badass dragon.

Secret because: I hear all the bitchin' about the movies being too pulpy or whatever, and I want them to be MORE silly?

Bonus secret: I am 100% headcanoning Ori and Bofur as ladies.

Secret 4 - Ghost in the Shell (anime)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture from the Japanese animated series/franchise? "Ghost in the Shell". It shows television news program broadcasting a man sitting on the floor, while another person, standing behind him, aims a gun at the back of his head. The gunman's face is obscured by a symbol of a smiling face that is kind of wearing a baseball cap? and has the following text around it: "I thought what I'd d[unreadable]s I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes".]

When I was in my teens I idealised The Laughing Man, he was everything I tried and wanted to be as a person working within a corrupt system. But I've come to realise that after nearly a decade I've become Section 9 instead.

From Wikipedia:

"The Laughing Man is an expert hacker, able to hide his physical presence by editing himself out of video feeds and cybernetic eyes, concealing his identity by superimposing an animated logo over his face, and hijacking cybernetic brains altogether, all in real-time."

He apparently assaulted an important political figure on live television and used his mad hacking skills to hide his appearance from everyone ever, making them think that weird logo thing was his actual face, igniting a sort of counterculture in the public.

"Public Security Section 9 was established as a search and rescue organization. Officially billed as an international organization, it is actually a counter-terrorist network and anti-crime unit operating in the Japanese National Public Safety Commission. Its operatives are allowed to act with or without government consent as they are almost unknown to the public eye. In particular, Section 9 and its members are among the best cyber warfare operatives in the country, and as a result usually end up involved in cases relating to the Internet, such as hacking and cyberterrorism."

Secret 5 - Slash fanfiction dynamics

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a fanart of Thor and Loki, from the Marvel films, by the artist "kain_was_here". It shows Loki with horns and wearing a green cloak somewhere with ice. He is leaning down to stroke Thor's chin, who has his eyes closed and is sitting next to him wearing only golden armbands and a red loincloth.]

In my slash pairings, I usually prefer it when the bigger, stronger partner is the penetrated and/or submissive partner in smutty fic. I love the visual and the dynamic it elicits. It's unfortunately rare for a lot of smaller pairings, though, and no one else seems to squee over the same dynamic as me. [sad face emoticon]

Secret 6 - Sleepy Hollow (2013 TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Katrina Crane, as portrayed by Katia Winter, from the TV series "Sleepy Hollow". She is a woman with gray eyes, light skin and long brown hair wearing a dark gray dress.]

The way Katrina is treated by the fandom has turned me off the show completely. I don't even really like her character and ship Ichabbie, but the vitriol tossed her way is disgusting.

Secret 1: Katrina wouldn't be this hated if Abbie wasn't the second coming because of her skin colour. I get it, there aren't enough Women of Color in media, but Abbie is not the best thing since sliced cheese.
Secret 2: If Abbie was white, there would be more canon (Ikatrina) shippers.
Secret 3: I think Ichabod loves his wife and I think Katrina loves her husband.

Secret 7 - Star Trek, Star Wars, The Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings; books vs movie/show

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a four photographs depicting: various "Star Trek" novels, "Star Wars" novels, the book "The Hunger Games", and a movie poster of "The Lord of the Rings" showing Frodo staring down at the ring.]

[Star Trek, Star Wars]

Love the books, dislike the movies/show.

[Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings]

Love the movies, dislike the books.

Secret because: shun the blasphemer! shuuuuuunnnn

Secret 8 - Frozen (2013 animated film)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the logo of the CGI animated film "Frozen". It has ice all over, and there are the words: "From the creators of "Tangled" and "Wreck it Ralph". "In theatres November 27". "Disney.com/frozen".]

I really can't wait for everyone to stop talking about this movie.

Secret 9 - Love triangles in fiction

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a drawing of a triangle with the "W" and "C" corners in love with the "F" corner, plus a bunch of red hearts bubbling up on the right.]

Seeing love triangles everywhere made me hate them, but I think I'm starting to get sick of people complaining about them.

And maybe I don't actually mind them too much.

Secret 10 - Pregnancy in fanfiction

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a photograph of a woman touching her pregnant abdomen.]

The idea of being pregnant/giving birth really weirds me out (I'd like to have kids though, but adopted ones). But I really like reading well done pregnancy fanfiction (including omega!verse and male pregnancy).

I feel weird about it.

Secret 11 - Cathy (newspaper comic strip)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Cathy, from the newspaper comic strip of the same name. She is a woman with long brown hair wearing a white blouse, a golden necklace, a pink-purple suit with a matching skirt and a dark handbag.]

My mother's name is Kathy. She looks, talks, and acts almost exactly like Cathy. (She even goes "Aack!" when she's surprised.) I always used to love this comic, because it was like I was reading about my mother.

I've never met anyone else who doesn't consider this comic sexist--apparently, Cathy reads as a walking stereotype to most people. But I don't think my mother is really that stereotypical, and I wonder if the drive towards "strong female characters" is neglecting some of the kinds of people that women can be.

Secret Because: This comic ended years ago; no1curr.

Secret 12 - Epic Rap Battles of History (YouTube comedy video series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-14 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture of a YouTube video showing the comedian Peter Shukoff, also known as "Nice Peter", impersonating the painter, art instructor and television host Bob Ross, best known as the creator and host of the PBS television program "The Joy of Painting". Nice Peter is a man with light olive skin, a short beard and mustache and he is wearing a light brown afro hairstyle wig. He is wearing a light blue shirt and holding a brush. There is a painting of a forest on an easel next to him. He is talking excitedly at the camera, with the subtitles "I'm so glad you could join me today".]

Not Secret: I think NicePeter's a really good-looking guy!

Secret: I am SO attracted to him in this video. I'm pretty sure it's because of the very silky, soothing Bob Ross voice. I've never been attracted to Bob Ross otherwise, just the Epic Rap Battles version of Bob Ross.
