Oddly enough yes, but like... that scene was actually in the book iirc, so I have no explanation for why they hated it so much.

That is really strange. As a fan of the book I always liked the irreverent randomness of the beginning, so making the first third of the movies so serious and epic was very jarring to me.

...singing...I do not recall singing. From the book. The animated movie, that does ring a vague bell. *twitch* I do not, however, recall singing dwarves in the book...

There are so many singing dwarves in the book. I also vaguely remember lots of epic poems being sung in LOTR? (But I was young and just skipped over everything that looked like a poem. I'm not proud)
