Ice cream recipes!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought myself an ice cream maker as a Christmas present for myself! So, I see a lot of ice cream in the coming year.

Do any of you have any tasty recipes or awesome flavours to recommend?

What kind of ice cream maker? I have a Cuisinart and whenever I make the ice cream, I'm honestly not impressed by with it, it's more of soft ice cream. BUT!! We have learned to make sorbet with it so I really love either strawberry, watermelon, lemon, or raspberry sorbet.

If you like Eggnog I would suggest starting off with that. My personal favorite flavor is pistachio.

Stock up on Girl Scout cookies (if you like them) when the time comes, and make your own girl scout cookie ice cream.

Cookie dough ice cream is also pretty good, and if you use an eggless cookie dough recipe, you won't have to worry about salmonella or anything.

I'm a fan of chocolate with cinnamon. Sorbets are also awesome and really easy.

I have this book and it has lots of great recipes for different flavors in it:

Lemon has been my favourite so far based on natural ingredients, flavour, and how easy it is to make. Whoppers is always popular with my family, the vanilla yogurt is the easiest recipe ever, and Smurf/Superman/Blue Moon is the most interesting flavour I've had.

All but one of the recipes I mentioned are in this book, which is my favourite of all the ones I bought when we got an ice cream maker. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Perfect-Scoop-Granitas-Accompaniments/dp/1906417547/
I change the vanilla yogurt one though and just use vanilla extract because I hate vanilla beans in desserts.

The Smurf/Superman/Bluemoon recipe I used was this one: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2012/07/blue-moon-ice-cream-recipe.html

and here's a non-custard one:
http://dessert.food.com/recipe/blue-moon-ice-cream-123818
You can use instant pudding mix for the recipe and we used raspberry extract instead of raspberry oil (couldn't find it anywhere) or pureed raspberries (expensive and means having all the seeds in the ice cream - ick!)

Non-custard ice creams often turn out more like sorbet in home ice cream makers, so it's usually better to go with the custard recipe if you have a choice between the two.
