Upon considering my favorite m/m slash pairings, I realize that none of them involve a large divide between how masculine the characters are or the size of their bodies, etc. In fact, I think that's one thing that draws me to these specific pairings (besides chemistry) is the relative equality of the characters and, yes, the idea of fairly masculine men talking about their feelings. If a lot of yaoi tropes were applied to these pairings, everybody would be incredibly OTT.

I don't care who bottoms or tops or whether anal sex is even on the menu at all, and can't fathom why anyone would develop a headcanon that demands a strict adherence to one role or another and then fight about it on the internet with people who developed a different headcanon. Isn't it still hot, regardless of whose tab A goes into whose Slot B?

I have the same taste in pairings as you for the most part, but I occasionally do have a preference like OP? It's not a yaoi thing, it's usually more about wanting to see a specific character get a certain kind of attention. I wouldn't argue about it- it's a kink not a worldview heh.

ayrt

I don't see soft preferences as a problem. If you aren't complaining to fic writers that they're Doing it Wrong because A penetrated B instead of B penetrating A, then you don't have a problem in my book. :)
