That's a good thought, OP. I agree with you in principle, though I've never loved this specific cartoon. Did / does your mom like it, by the way? :)

BTW, I don't remember people talking about how she's an awful character. Maybe I'm outta th' loop.

My mother claims to hate this comic, but every time I found a strip that reminded me of her and showed it to her, she would laugh out loud. She dislikes Cathy's worries and insecurities, and I think she doesn't want to admit that she shares them.

I think you just cracked why women hate any representation of a vulnerable or insecure woman, OP.

This is also why some women are the first to victim-blame in cases of rape. They can't admit how vulnerable they really are.
