Isn't our modern concept of Santa pretty much an invention of Coca-Cola?

Not really. They helped standardize and spread an already-existing conception.

Not really. Coca-Cola's Santa is actually Norman Rockwell's Santa. So there's a whole other level of cultural mythos that fat-red(white)-elf-with-beard taps into. That didn't really exist, outside of Norman Rockwell paintings.
