Is there something about source material that puts you off or is it just coincidence?

I think it's just coincidence? It might be something as basic as the SFX messing with my suspension of disbelief...certainly HG and LotR have decent-to-awesome SFX while the Star Trek series, and to a lesser extent the Star Wars movies, I can imagine much better effects while reading than you can see while watching the videos. Idk. Also worldbuilding is important to me, and there's so much in the ST and SW series that you can see and be intrigued by but I want an explanation of. The films of HG and LotR seem to be more self-explanatory or to talk about the bits I'm interested in.
