That sounds a lot like what happened to me. I got into DBZ via het pairings, when I wore out the stock of a good archive for my favourite pairing I started tracking featured writers back to their websites... and one of them had a page for yaoi. I looked at it, went "WTF?!", then sat and thought about the pairing I'd seen listed and thought "Okay... I can see that, but that pairing looks more interesting!".

I only really came back to reading het about 6 or so years later, because of the mechanics of some robot porn in Transformers reads like "robot penis in robot vagina" (personal pronouns of the robots don't matter), and for a while I couldn't read human slash, but that was cured when I wandered into SPN.
