Yeah, I think this describes it well. I've got mixed feelings about the Hobbit movie (haven't seen Desolation of Smaug yet) and the overall tone. While I don't mind the humor and lightness... well, I wouldn't want much more of it, and the existing humor is sometimes difficult to reconcile with moments of high drama. It's only going to get more difficult as we get closer to the end.

I understand that Jackson's got a rather tricky issue to deal with re: adjusting the tone to match LOTR and I sympathize, but I'm not convinced the attempt is working.
