): RIP Peter O'Toole

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Damnit, it still irritates me that that fantastic man didn't get an Oscar for Lawrence. Also, his eyes were the best eyes ever. And I will love him forever for fearlessly and awesomely putting as much flair into all the cheesy things he did as he put into the serious drama. ):

Now I must go watch What's New Pussycat.

Nooooooo

The last of his breed, really. We won't see his like again, I don't think. He was a phenomenal actor, it was a tragedy that he never won an Oscar. I loved his work. His style was so different than what you see today, and he was so good at it. RIP.

Now I really do need to watch The Lion in Winter for Christmas.

I know, right? God, how good was he in that! What a cast it had, and how good he was!

Everyone is fucking excellent in that movie. Everyone.

Just watched this tonight in memory of the great actor. I can understand him losing for "Lawrence of Arabia" because he was up against Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird", but it's a crime he didn't take it for "The Lion in Winter". No one remembers either the actor or the movie that won that year.

It was Cliff Robertson for Charly (based on Flowers for Algernon), and quite deservedly so. He does quite well anyway, but O'Toole was MUCH too young for Henry.

I've only ever seen him in "Lawrence of Arabia", but I really liked him in that movie. :(

:(

Mourn him with a weirdly hot and artsy fanfic RPS:

"Black and White, Still" (Peter O'Toole/Leni Riefenstahl)

OMG, Mr. O'Toole has died? Oh, that is so very sad. I have had a crush on 'my' Mr. Chips since i was a wee thing.

Damn.

God, that sucks. Thanks for informing us. How fucking unfair that he never won an Oscar...

According to the Academy, Three Six Mafia are more significant contributors to the movie industry than Peter O'Toole

(yes I know he got a lifetime achievement award, that doesn't work with the joke)

Mr. O'Toole will be greatly missed.

Now I want to see My Favorite Year, The Stunt Man, and The Ruling Class again.

He's really good in My Favorite Year. Lawrence of Arabia is pretty, but I don't think it works well on small screens.

My favorite thing of his is still in The Tudors when he's just gotten a report about Anne Boleyn and he says, 'Well, why doesn't someone just kill her?"

Oh man! I adored him as Cervantes/Alonso Quijano/Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha. (I'm also rather put out that the film isn't mentioned at all in his IMDB bio. Bah!)

Godspeed, Knight of the Woeful Countenance.

Oh wow, I didn't know that! I still have a special soft spot for Lawrence of Arabia.

And yes, his eyes...

Who was it that said if he were any more beautiful in it it'd be 'Florence of Arabia'?

That was from the wit of Mr. Noel Coward.
