Voice acting thread I guess

(Anonymous) 2013-12-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
So I've been watching Black Lagoon for a few weeks and now I've just realized that the voice actress for Levy (sp?) was also the voice actress for Sei in Maria-sama ga miteru, so now Sei is more awesome than ever.

So any funny stories about how you realized that X vas dubbed by the same person who dubbed Y? Or any love letter to a voice actor in particular?

You won't believe this, but Gromit, Gordon Freeman, Plank, The Pink Panther, Snake Eyes, Sooty, and the muppet version of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come share the same VA!

The cast of Gargoyles sounded really familiar, but I didn't realize that it was pretty much the cast of ST:TNG until I checked the acting credits.

As a kid, I knew the bird from the old PBS show Cyberchase was voiced by Gilbert Gottfried, I had no idea the Hacker was voiced by Christopher Lloyd.

Now that I think about it, Gilbert Gottfried was in a lot of kid's shows and movies, which is really jarring after you've heard his standup.

I've been a Deus Ex fan for years. In the original game, there's a guy named Smuggler who sells you weapons and equipment. He's a black dude with Dennis Rodman-like white hair and sunglasses.

Earlier this year I finally sat down and played Metal Gear Solid 4 (worth the wait btw.) There's a character, Drebin, a black dude with white hair and earrings and sunglasses who sells you weapons.

Both are voiced by Khary Payton -- and I knew it right away.

Several of the FMA actors are in other things I've seen. And I'm always happy to hear Steven Blum, whom I loved as Spike Spiegel, in other stuff I watch. I could have sex with his voice.

my sudden and intense love of Nightcrawler starting at the age of about 13 (despite having read Xmen comics/watching cartoons all my life and being indifferent to him) may or may not have a lot to do with his voice actor being Brad Swaile, voice of my junior high crush Quatre <3
luckily Nightcrawler IS actually a badass so I never have to explain my love to anyone ;)

My sister was watching Teen Beach Movie and I told her that the stereotypical villain dude in that is Alistair from Dragon Age.

I may have ruined that movie AND Alistair for her.

Also there's the whole Raphael Sbarge thing, where he's Carth (KOTOR) and Kaidan (Mass Effect), and then he's Archie in OUAT. I think he actually loves the whole "Omg that's Kaidan!" reaction from people starting to watch the show.

Finding out Clancy Brown voiced Mr Krabs on Spongebob was a bit of a shock.

Lex Luthor? Yep, I can see it. But Mr Krabs is 'holy crap, really?' Mr Krabs is the blasted Kurgan?

Figuring out Kasey Kasem voiced too many animated characters I had crushes on was quite devastating to me, since I despised Kasey Kasem.

I was weirded out when I found out that Alan Tudyk voiced King Candy, but mostly because I couldn't 'hear' Wash in the KC voice so it didn't even twig that it was him when I saw WIR the first time. But apparently he's done a fair bit of voice work sine Firefly and I've just not noticed.

Steve Blum has done hundreds of voices for so many series I can always tell it's him and he's awesome.

Also Joshua Seth and Mona Marshall, who played Tai and Izzy in Digimon were both in Wolf's Rain together as well as GitS SSS.

I recognized Mona Marshall as well in Guild Wars.

I guess the guy who voices Garrus in Mass Effect isn't the guy who voiced Sesshomaru, but it took me three games to figure it out. They sound really, really similar.

It will never fail to amuse me that Hironori Miyata voiced both him... and him.

Also, Nobuyuki Hiyama, who voiced adult Link from Ocarina of Time, also voiced him in other appearances - Zora Link and Fierce Deity Link in Majora's Mask, Smash Bros and Smash Bros Melee, and Soul Calibur II. The latter, specifically, is most notable since he also voices Nightmare in the same game (and Yoshimitsu - Yoshimitsu was later recast from IV onwards; Nightmare was as well, from III, but Hiyama continued voicing Siegfried), and if you use the Japanese voice setting, you can have Link versus Nightmare doing identical "HYAHH!"s at each other. It's fucking funny and I actually dropped my controller in surprise the first time Nightmare used Link's scream.

...Hiyama also voiced what was describe as "a naked and randy bunny boy" in Sensitive Pornograph, which will make you never be able to see the Bunny Hood the same way again.

I already knew that Ken Sansom voiced both Hound (Transformers G1) and Rabbit (Winnie the Pooh), but it was still a shock of sorts. Hound's a rather happy-go-lucky, cheerful personality and Rabbit is a neurotic and frankly kind of rude and condecending sometimes. It was weird.
