There are a lot of people who think it's okay for women to have certain kinks but always skeezy if men are into them. This can apply to the majority of kinks involving power dynamics, especially if there's also an element of humiliation or degradation.

There was that page 2 thread here a little bit ago with the OP who was okay with women who had noncon kinks, but thought men with noncon kinks were all rapists (or rapists waiting to happen), for example.

I didn't read that but I agree with it.

I must have missed that one as well, but like you, I agree with the sentiment.

There is also quite a large portion of feminist literature dedicated to alerting women to the various "potential rapist" warning signs found in men. I think openly fantasizing about committing rape has to be a biggie.

And a woman fantasizing about committing rape isn't, right?

How about people learn that fiction isn't real life and obsessively applying real life to it is massively stupid.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-17 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
How about no.

Eeeh, I can see how, with the current state of things, that can really be a bad sign when coming from a man...Of course there are people who can differentiate between fantasy and reality, but in a world where there are still plenty of men thinking that rape is not that big of a deal I can absolutely see how a man with that kink might not be considering it just a fantasy that won't ever be carried in real life. I'd think the approach of a man who sees it as a fantasy and a man who sees it as something they would potentially do would also be noticeably different, though.

Yes, I agree, though unfortunately doms overstepping boundaries, and raping subs, is something that does happen in the BDSM community, all under the belief that it's "fantasy". The doms (and dommes) can be hard to pick. It makes me very nervous as a sub. Rape culture is so pervasive and subtle that a fantasy of raping can pick up some IRL beliefs subconsciously quite easily. But there are totally some lovely people out there with fantasies about raping who are wise and warm enough to not fall for the crap.

If that seems impossible or skeevy to anyone, that's what bdsm kinks are, they are pleasurable power games, and ostensibly fundamentally consensual, the suspension of disbelief by common consent (so not "rape").
