He's really bad at continuity (even when they're HIS creations), drives plots into these black holes of nonsense and takes away a lot of backstory and agency especially from his female characters who tend to form into the same archetype.

I think he just needs to not be in charge, his writing is better when someone else can say, "That'll do, Moff, that'll do."

It's hard to describe too concisely -- there's so many things that are massively wrong, and usually mixed in with some really really awesome bits of writing to make it more confusing to figure out why you hate it.

I could only really describe it if I write a long essay about it, and I don't have the energy right now. Maybe tomorrow. ;)

He married the Doctor away, had his companion Ammy fell in love with him for a few eps. He also made River Song's life revolve around the Doctor which is just wrong. I couldn't get into River's arc at all, she was creepy.
And Clara robs me the wrong way. I saw her in a new movie and she was... rude and generally unimpressed with all the aliens? Wearing unpractical clothes?
And I liked Rose, Martha, Sam, Nissa, Tigan and Perry, but I disliked Ammy and Clara. I think something is wrong with Moffat's writing.

From my POV his writing is mostly plot driven and a bit too much showy-offy. To me it feels cold. Whereas RTD's writing is/was more character driven, more campy, it just suited my taste better.
Most of all, the vibe I get from this secret, RTD's writing could make you fall in love with a character. For me Moffat's writing falls very, very short at that. At best I would describe his writing as... (trying to be) smart, not the kind of writing that makes me stay at home on a Saturday night, turn of my phone, the computer and watch a show for 45 minutes... like I did in the RTD era.
(In Moffat's favour, I think RTD was the worst head writer he could have succeeded since they're IMO so different.)

The replies above mine... My god, you summed up what I'm feeling! I always worry I'm just being negative and not interrogating the text from the right perspective, haha, but these are all issues I have with it! Welllll, I guess I'm not alone?

There are just a lot of holes.

I think he relies on the Doctor Is An Alien too much. Yes, he's an alien and therefore would have different priorities than we would and his life is such that a human would get cold and callous sometimes, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know humanity, you know? He's spent more time with them than we have, he knows that sexism exists and how to behave appropriately and what goofiness he has should be more because he's actually goofy not because he doesn't know any better. Of course he knows better!

And we're never given any kind of breathing room to show the effects of what the characters have gone through. Sure it's there, in the background for intrepid Moffat explorers to hunt down, but this is a show that's supposed have a wide range of people watching, not hardcore fans, and it just fails to speak to them.
