Wonder what the origin/meaning of another F!S user's username is and hope that they or another person answers it, or explain what your own username means!

e.g., I'm really interested in the origin of the name "fingalsanteater."

There's a user that used to post here named worldeater, and it always made me think of It, "the eater of worlds...and children!" and it inspired this account, named after my favorite villain ever, Pennywise The Dancing Clown.

I am an owl in rl, but a barn owl. I've always wanted to be a majestic sooty owl, but I can't afford the plastic birdgery. So I named this account "sootyowl" instead, to live the life I always wanted.

In middle school, neopets was the only website that I regularly went to that was not blocked by CIPA. Only problem? I couldn't remember my old username, so I just kind of doodled around until I got lorac, then thought it would look cool as a palindrome, and I've just kind of kept it ever since.

I feel like that's kind of a boring story, sorry.

A) in the 90s, before windows 95, all filenames followed the 8.3 format (8 characters, a period, 3 character extension)

2) classic murder simulator duke nukem 3d was no exception, all its filenames followed the 8.3 format due to the game running natively in DOS (obviously those days are long over with the arrival of eduke32 and other source ports)

D) all of DN3D's music was in MIDI format (written for and intended to be played on the roland SC-55 sound module which almost nobody had lol) and easily extracted from the .grp file for later listening

IV) this included the song "taking the death toll" (composed by bobby prince, he of doom soundtrack fame) which of course due to filename limits was reduced to dethtoll.mid

6) this song served as the theme for E1L2, red light district, but it was also the default song for user-made maps that you pulled down over the internet or off one of the small legion of shovelware CDs you could pick up from electronics botique or whatever

6) thanks to it being the default song, and thanks to me playing great fucking mountains of duke 3d from 1999-2001, i heard it a lot

6) in 2001 when i first started my livejournal (lol) i needed a username and since duke3d was a big part of my life (kept me going in a bad time) i ended up using "dethtoll" as a username

Z) i don't even like the song that much, it's moody and atmospheric but not bobby prince's best at all, but it's stuck with me and i think the name has transcended its original use

I'm terrible at coming up with usernames, so I got it out of one of those generators where you just plug in a bunch of things you like and it mixes them up. Very profound.

writer = writing. Uh yeah. writerserenyty has been my username for ever, so it originally was because of fanfic, but now it feels appropriate given how much I blog.

Serenyty originally came from Sailor Moon (I was 11-12 so) because on some site the word Serenity was taken as a username so I went fuck it and changed the "i" to a "y".

Basically serenyty/writerserenyty has been my username online for ~10-11 years. So I just kind of use it all the time?

fingalsanteater is actually supposed to be Fingal's Anteater, the anteater of Fingal. Aram Fingal is a character from the movie "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank." It was riffed by Mystery Science Theater 3000, my favorite show and my inspiration for life, in their season 8. In the movie, poor Fingal is sent to compulsory rehab after scrolling up cinemas at work. Rehab in this universe means your brain is forced into animal's body and then you fuck around in stock footage of a wildlife special. Some dude asks Fingal how many credits he has (because he has to pay for his forced rehab), but it turns out Fingal doesn't have much. In fact, he may have to be "doppled" into an anteater because he's so poor and ew anteaters for some reason. From then on it's a running joke that the movie hates anteaters. (This movie just hates anteaters," says Crow, I believe.) Since all my usernames are MST3k related, thus fingalsanteater was born.

S=Spike (which I added when I forgot the pass to my KaijinCendre AIM name and it stuck).

It isn't deep, I just needed a name for my Herosmash character and wanted something a bit unique. (And of course a hero who can laminate anything is hella cool and everyone would be envious of him.) I thought it was catchy so I kept it. :p

Oh btw:

After having a couple of different identities that I mainly used on fandom_wank and various Star Trek and Harry Potter comms when I was 14-15 (those identities' reputations went down in flames as casualties of canon warfare during Potterdammerung), I drifted away from lj for a while and then later made a new lj account when I came back. My username on lj was meant to be "intriguing" because Data always says that on Star Trek TNG, but I misspelled it and then went "fuck it, I'm only using this account for memories and private writing anyway" (because I used a sometimes-shared computer and sure as fuck wasn't going to favorite any of my fandom-related pages on that).

Then I gradually started using the lj for more and more actual interaction and commenting on comms and other people's journals, including f!s, and that identity became known and so I couldn't change it to something less stupid, and when f!s switched to dreamwidth I just made a dw account with the same username since lots of people knew me.

So that's the long version of why I have a boring misspelled username ;)

I name my online handles after dragons most of the time and my Lj and DW username is a dragon from DnD(I tried a few and this was the one that wasn't taken).

Vagrant Story is my very favoritest video game in the world. It has a lot of people wearing... or... failing to wear... really weird pants while beating the crap out of each other with giant weapons and stuff. I had named myself after the "doomsday cult" run by my two favorite characters, over at LJ, but the cult was named after a character (who does not appear in the game, but is mentioned), and I wanted to get away from having a handle based on a fictional character, so that I could do things like NOT SHOW UP ON GOOGLE WHEN SOMEONE'S LOOKING FOR CHARACTER INFO, y'know. ;)

But I still love VS, and all its wacky pants (and also the MST3K song about pants, which I have been known to sing randomly for no reason), so somewhere along the line I came up with this.

It's a nod to Rocky Horror Picture Show, a hint of wisened female, it says that I like my slash with extra kink and it has some impressive sausage to it. :D

Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. I love to bake, and at the time I chose this name as my universal handle, I was really into baking red any color velvet cake, especially green, since green in my favorite color.

I tried for "Pantastic," because that's how the sib describes me to friends who'll never meet me, but it was taken (by someone who hasn't logged on in years, I might bitterly add). But I like the idea of being a pan phantasm as well, so it works. Like if Bob the Skull was into guys, too. :P

Though I gotta say, every time I scroll by pantswarrior's comments, I think I forgot I said something...

I was at an art auction that was going on for a few days. I didn't have enough money for any of the art but I liked to look at them. They were very pretty. One of the pictures was a painting of a jester. She was beautiful. I adored her. However, I seem to have been the only one. I even tried putting her up on the floor by putting a wanted pink slip on it. Still no one took her. She went back on the wall, forgotten by all but me. However, I'm grateful I did put her up on the floor. By doing so I learned more about the painting. Her story, along with that of her artist's, were beautiful. I still remember them. However, I have forgotten her name and that of her artist.

So much forgetting and such a grand jester. I put them together.

It was the jackal--Tabaqui, the Dish-licker--and the wolves of India despise Tabaqui because he runs about making mischief, and telling tales, and eating rags and pieces of leather from the village rubbish-heaps.

But they are afraid of him too, because Tabaqui, more than anyone else in the jungle, is apt to go mad, and then he forgets that he was ever afraid of anyone, and
runs through the forest biting everything in his way. Even the tiger runs and hides when little Tabaqui goes mad, for madness is the most disgraceful thing that can overtake a wild creature.

Chanticleer was taken and I wanted something fable related, but everything cool was taken...so I found a wiki list of fabled animal names and this one wasn't taken!

Also I have an utter asshole of a rabbit so the name amuses me.

I needed a new username and it kinda fits me, my other username that some of you are familiar with (Renth) is just Ren for my name, Renate and I think th is shortened the and probably some words after that, I honestly don't remember and then I think I got it shortened for something ages ago and it just stuck, probably twitter... Either way I can't be arsed to change it now.
