Everyone mishears Blinded by the Light.

I thought Smells Like Teen Spirit was mostly incomprehensible until Patti Smith did it with banjo.

(Back in the Hoover era, the FBI launched an investigation of Louie Louie. They missed the soft-spoken "fuck," when one of the band bungles, and declared it "incomprehensible at any speed.")

I hate Nirvana so much. So. Much.

I don't hate Nirvana, I dislike the myth of Nirvana and Cobain as the "voice of a generation." Especially the posthumous vulture that was MTV.

And hey, it's Patti Smith, the woman who could take one of Springsteen's working-class angst ballads and transform it into a performance of sublime sexual and spiritual longing. She manages to take Cobain's affected stupor, mixes it up with beat poetry and a banjo and comes out with...

...something actually worth listening to.

My sister was obsessed with them, so it sort of turned me off of Nirvana.

me too! (staying anon because i know so many people who think Kurt Cobain was some kind of saint. I think he was a whiny little prick whose songs sucked.)
