I actually ended up homeless and unemployed for about 6 monthes a year ago, I'm 29 and I fully understand your terror. A friend told me something at the time that has stuck with me, he pointed out that as long as you make it through your 20s without doing these 3 things you're good -

1. Dying
2. Catching an incurable disease
3. Accidentally getting pregnant or getting someone else pregnant

Its a cliche but reality is life is about finding yourself and if you're unhappy throw it all to the wind and change things. The worst that can happen is you die, anything else you can recover from as long as you keep moving forward.

There's wiggle room on number 3, I think. Not all accidents are bad or unwanted once the happen.

Guess I failed since I was diagnosed with an incurable disease that leaves me severely disabled. I have a few years to hit 30 though. Not looking forward to it.

You can still be awesome! I remember that physics dude in a chair, he's pretty cool.

No.

This is stupid. I can only speak for number 2 (been living my whole twenties with an incurable disease so fuck you), but I'm pretty sure that most people with number 3 would disagree as well. Just because fate pissed on you doesn't mean that your life is over.

And you can die early and still live a fulfilling life so fuck you twice.

That said I'm happy you could recover from your problems anon.

DA

They didn't say your life was over if any of these things happened. They said that you were doing pretty good if they didn't.

I remember reading that research.
And on the topic... As long as you're able to positively impact lifes of other people you're fine. Humans're social animals after all.

I'd cut 2 and 3 out to be honest, I have an incurable illness, and accidental babies aren't always a bad thing.
