One of my favourite things about the LotR movies was that Karl Urban's Eomer was pretty much the exact same character I'd imagined when I read the book.
And then his version of Bones was one of the very few characters in the Trek reboot who was recognisably the same person as the equivalent TOS character (I know I know, mileage varies, headcanon is not canon, various interpretations, blah blah blah).
And then Karl Urban turned into my favourite actor because he managed to play TWO of my favourite pre-established characters without pissing me of (and I'm really picky when it comes to adaptations).

But I can totally see what you mean :)

I loved his Eomer. He was spectacular in the role.
