IA. It seems to me that most UK crime dramas tend to go the same way; they start out great, and the writers decide (Are told?) that all their innovative, original material in the first season worked so well, they're going to have to do it again. And again. And over and over and over again.

Exception: L&O: UK but the formula of the show prevented that. (Did I mention how much I like L&O:UK? Consider it mentioned.)

Except that Whitechapel went from police procedural to Gothic horror in its final series. Weirdly it worked rather well, but it was a quantum genre shift.

As for Kent and Chandler ... Doomed. Chandler was a poster boy for neurosis based asexuality. Poor Kent would seriously have his work cut out for him even if he didn't have spectacularly bad timing when it came to making his big move.

AYRT

Ah, see, I never saw the final series. Though I can't see how much more "Gothic horror" than series 1 the show could get.....As you can probably tell from my L&O comment, I'm one of those strange people who actually likes the police procedure part of police procedurals.....
