Winter confessions

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I wish people would leave their Christmas lights on all winter.

January and February are when I get the most depressed.

I wish we could have lights all year, instead of them being 'Christmas' (and now 'Halloween') lights. They're so pretty.

I'm glad my brother is out of my life, but I wish he would call my mom and talk to her so she won't cry.

Quite a few people do where I live. Mostly because it's too damn cold and usually icy to take them down. It's nice. :) Because yeah, Jan and Feb and March are the worst.

I know the feel. I hate taking the tree down and I hate seeing the very pretty houses get so...blah after the first week or so of January. :(

I think I'm starting to feel seasonal depression (I've never had it before and I'm not even sure that's what is going on) and I hate that because I've always loved winter. :<

Nine times out of ten, I like giving presents more than receiving them; even if I'm receiving something I wanted (like from a wishlist). It annoys me that the only thing someone wants is a gift card. I want to get them something tangible they can enjoy. I pretty much never know what they end up getting with gift cards...

I know some girls from work who are planning on exchanging gift cards for the holidays and they've all agreed on $50 cards and I'm over here like ?.

I get that in most gift giving there's a financial balancing that seems like it renders the exchange moot but usually there's the thought and the surprise and the work that goes into the actual shopping to make up for it.

I like getting things for people too but sometimes I can't find anything good, so I have fun watching them shop with their giftcard instead. It's cute.

I hate gift cards. They say "I don't really care enough to know what you like". I'd rather be without than getting an insult in Christmas wrapping.

I also think that I would much rather give gifts rather than receive them. As for gift cards, I don't mind getting them, but when I see it on a wishlist I tend to want to get the person an actual gift and the gift card is only given if I can't find them a suitable gift (either I can't find what they want or it's out of my price range).

Lights are nice, trees are nice.

But I hate most of the music and I absolutely fucking hate how people make such a big deal out of it and act like it's a horrible horror of horrors if I don't want to go to xmas day celebrations.

I prefer to go to all the leadup celebrations (and after xmas celebrations) with my family/friends then spend the actual day by myself relaxing instead of stressful, painful 'family' dinners.

So glad I'm working on it this year. Next year I hope to have my own place and I'll just tell everyone I have plans when really I just want to relax and chill in comfortable quiet.

/unintentional rant sorry. :(

I feel like I'm a terrible winter driver since everyone always seems to be able to go faster than me and slip less, but I think it's mainly that I can't afford a car with all-wheel drive and ABS, etc. I'm still so embarassed and feel so bullied on the road, though, that I'll do whatever I can to avoid driving in fresh snow (while copping a "LOL, look at all these losers who don't think to check the forecast and plan their time accordingly" attitude) and if I absolutely have to drive, I'll go out of my way to take a route that gives me an excuse to drive slowly.

i hate winter beyond the first or second snowfall and below like -10 (and where i live it snows a lot and gets below -10 very often), i'm already counting down the days until it's over

I'm the opposite. I get really stressed out, anxious and irritable during the summer. During the winter I'm pretty chill -- pun not intended.

Now that I have a part time you'd think I would now be buying everyone gifts, but I've mostly bought things for myself. I only have 2 small gifts for my sister and a family gift exchange and am planning on getting a friend a gift card since they have something for me.

One one hand, I really needed a new bra, underwear, and jeans, but on the other hand I'm also buying a bunch of other stuff that is half my paycheck each week.

WE'RE DYING OF SUMMER HERE, SANTIAGO IS A GODDAMN OVEN DX

But at least we can wear pretty/skimpy/alloftheabove clothes to party on New Year's. Actually, as opposed to spending Xmas with my family, I'm VERY looking forward to go partying on New Year's. I just hope my friends manage to go with me. Partying alone sucks.

We put up our Christmas village the day after Halloween and leave it up until winter is over. The Christmas tree in the town square is only there from the day after Thanksgiving until New Years, so it's more of a winter village. We move things around and stage dramas between all the people, even the ones that are inside buildings and we can't move. Winter is my favorite season ever since we started doing that :)

My family DOES leave white Christmas lights on all winter because it's so dark and gloomy here otherwise :)

That's a good idea. February is the worst, I think.

When it first gets cold I'm always a bit happy because it gives me an excuse to wear heavy clothing to work, where my office is basically a walk in freezer.

Every year I plan to decorate a tree outside for the birds, and never get it done.
