Re: Winter confessions

Nine times out of ten, I like giving presents more than receiving them; even if I'm receiving something I wanted (like from a wishlist). It annoys me that the only thing someone wants is a gift card. I want to get them something tangible they can enjoy. I pretty much never know what they end up getting with gift cards...

I know some girls from work who are planning on exchanging gift cards for the holidays and they've all agreed on $50 cards and I'm over here like ?.

I get that in most gift giving there's a financial balancing that seems like it renders the exchange moot but usually there's the thought and the surprise and the work that goes into the actual shopping to make up for it.

I like getting things for people too but sometimes I can't find anything good, so I have fun watching them shop with their giftcard instead. It's cute.

I hate gift cards. They say "I don't really care enough to know what you like". I'd rather be without than getting an insult in Christmas wrapping.

That's not true. They could also be saying "I care about you, but the stuff you like is confusing to me".

Like I honestly don't expect my grandparents to shop for video games or sci-fi novels or know what kind of stuff I wear, so I'm happy with gift-cards.

I love gift cards. They say, "You get to go shopping and not spend any of your actual money." I'd rather get a gift card than some unflattering clothes.

I also think that I would much rather give gifts rather than receive them. As for gift cards, I don't mind getting them, but when I see it on a wishlist I tend to want to get the person an actual gift and the gift card is only given if I can't find them a suitable gift (either I can't find what they want or it's out of my price range).
