Having gone first to a big unpersonal university with a great standing* and then moved to a small University College* no one has heard about except the imaginatively named: The Film School which only shares a building with us.

I prefer the small one, our lecturers and professors really care about up and know us, being in student council I know they make changes when we tell them something isn't working and I know everyone to some degree in my class.

I might miss out on some stuff, but really I would rather be where I am hours away from most of my friends, my girlfriend and family over moving to a bigger university.

What I love about my school? I love the buildings and atmosphere I get being there, the fact that everyone in my class is up for discussions and a helping hand in every subject. That I can knock on my professors food and they will talk to me right away as long as they don't have a meeting. I am respected and admired for being intelligent and the staff is fantastic!

Downside being I can't take a double BA in sociology and film and television studies, because they don't offer sociology at my school and they would if I had stayed at NTNU, but as that is something I want to do for fun not for my future career I don't think it is that much of a biggie. Also being a small class you kinda have to hang out with the same people every day... There is probably more but I'm sleepy.

I get what you mean about having a more personal connection in smaller schools. I'm on the student council too, and I know things get fixed when I complain, lol

And yeah, having smaller classes and more time with the teachers is awesome too. I can just go upstairs to my lecturers office whenever I want to ask a question and he's there...and sometimes we've just ended up playing Skyrim, lol

Student council is fun! Well the extra points* and recommendation I get from the head of my department is!

Yeah only difference I think between our teaching methods is we have lecture halls, like 10 of them, but the are not huge and like my class was 90 students the first year (biggest ever 60 this year) we are now down to 30ish because the BA students are with the year students. Anyway what I meant to say was we have half classroom discussions and half lectures in most subject and they split us in two for class discussion.

I'm not sure what you call it in English but our subjects have a point system thing as in we have to have 180 points to get an BA. Subjects range from 7,5 to 20 points and we take at least 30 each semester to be considered full time students. Has nothing to do with grades it is supposed to have to do with the size of the subject and the lower points the fewer lectures.

That does sound similar to how my school works.

We had 30ish people at the start of the year, and we get split in two for some classes. We also have a few lectures but it's mainly class discussions/workshops.

The points system sounds interesting. Is it to make sure people take enough subjects, or is it more to make sure you show up to class?

Yeah I like it.

Nah just a way for the state to keep track of who is a full time student or not (look at a comment uptread to know more info) as only full time students get full scholarship and also they know how far you are. Also to keep track of subjects. Last semester I had about 6 required classes I had to show up to as in lessons not subjects. The points mean nothing except how much the subject is worth. Only grade we get is on our exams...

We have something similar in America, though the 'credits' that classes are measured in can vary (for instance, most colleges assign 4 credits to a class with a lab and 3 to a stand-alone class, but at my school, most classes were a single credit, with labs and whatnot being fractions of a credit. It make comparison interesting.)
