Re: Have I missed out on anything?

I personally loved it. I get nostalgic and wish I could go back pretty often. I only lived in the dorms for the first two years and then commuted. And I belonged to a frat but it wasn't the stereotypical frat you see in movies. Weirdly, even though I made several good friends I don't really talk to them anymore. I'm much closer to my high school friends.

Ahhh, fraternities and sororities, I have never really understood them.
I guess it's a very American thing (I live in New Zealand, raised in England)

From what I can understand they're like elite clubs, right? You need to have certain requirements to get in? I'm probably way off the mark here, haha

Yeah, that's what I meant about them not being like you see in the movies. For example, instead of going through regular Rush (where you go to each frat house during a party, talk to the brothers and see if you want to join) I went through informal Rush, which is less stressful. I didn't meet anyone who was snobby.

There are no real requirements to get in. It's all about if you will fit into that specific one personality-wise. You do have to pay dues once you're in though. Also, you have to keep your grades up and most frats/sororities require some sort of philanthropy/community service.

Keep in mind this was my experience only. I'm sure other people have different experiences with the Greek system.
