I think fandom likes UST and chemistry and pining and a slow burn, all leading to "happily ever after." So, if two people make a fairly pragmatic decision to sleep together because they both feel in the mood, but they didn't have much build-up before hand and have no interest in carrying on a relationship afterward, fandom doesn't really have anywhere to go with that. Rather than just dismiss the incident as boring and irrelevant and move on, some people are going to feel offended and make a bigger deal out of whatever reasons there are to dislike it.
