Ehhhhh, anon! Let's commiserate! I too can't stand Sam or Dean (which is probably why I won't watch it when it comes back from hiatus). It is mind numbing to watch them do the same shit every season (secret from brother, brother acting weird because secret, secret found out, brother mad, brothers fight, brothers separate for an episode, brothers get back together, repeat).

Castiel was the only thing getting me through this season. As least he was not doing the same ol' stupid shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
But, there's supposed to be tons of Cas in the second half of the season?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, as a rehash of his season six plot. fuck that noise. unless he manages to wipe out Sam and Dean. that might get me to watch again.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard that before, but I'm not sure I follow the logic.

In Season 6 he was secretly working with Crowley to open Purgatory, taking him into a downward spiral of questionable choices, while leading a rebel contingent against Raphael's forces in Heaven. Now he's going to be caught between two warring angelic factions on Earth, both of whom want his head on a platter, neither of whom has any business taking power, and whom he presumably will be trying to stop from killing each other. In S6 he was convinced of his own righteousness and ability to handle anything, whereas this season he's flat-out declared that he failed at being an angel and has done nothing but question his own competence.

The only thing I see that the two plots have in common is angels fighting angels.

I might watch the episodes he is heavily in, but otherwise meh. I didn't watch episodes he wasn't in for the first half.

As someone that stopped watching at 9:5, watched the mid-season finale and decided nah, I won't be coming back, I'm interested to know what finally made you decide you'd had enough. Was it the repetitive plot? Or something else? (I feel like I should do a study on why people finally stop watching long-running shows.)

I was really meh through most of S9. But the mid season finale and the death of Kevin just made me decide that I won't be back. Same shit AND killing awesome minor characters.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think I stopped watching at 9,5, too -- it was the one where Dean casually tortures and kills a demon for information, then is reunited with Cas, and then throws Cas under a bus in favor of Sam.

I was still annoyed that the show never called Dean on his alcoholic emotionally abusive season seven bullshit, and that episode made me realize that there's nothing new or likable about these characters anymore.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Agree; just 4 episodes in this season, and I just drifted away; it just reeked of same, old same old; the song remains the same indeed. The show has really gotten stale and if anything it just hurts me to see it just keep going and going, walking over the corpses of any character that brought any entropy or fun.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Is someone forcing you to continue watching this show against your will?

It's a horrible condition called I'mthisdeepalreadymightaswellkeeponitis. We all suffer from it some point.

Yanno, the suffix "-itis" means inflammation of, so, it seems like this is an appropriate name for a fandom disease. IDK, random, my coffee wore off way too early today.

I'd fucking die laughing if they killed off the main characters for good. There are real tears in my eyes and I'm only just thinking about how hard I'll laugh.

I love how fucked up Sam and Dean are (Dean especially), and I love that motherfuckers are pretty much subsiding on guilt, pain, and co-dependence, but I'd like for them to learn a lesson this time. I'm behind like three eps, so I haven't seen Kevin get killed yet, but both Sam and Dean liked (loved in little brother way?) him much and I hope this time it'll learn 'em.

SPOILERS!!

seeing as we've had an interview where they say Dean doesn't even mourn Kevin because, you know, mourning him would make Dean such a girl, I doubt it learns anyone anything.

Except me. It learned me to stop watching this fucking show.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, most people don't get mourned on this show, unless that was their sole purpose for existing (i.e., Mary and Jess.) There's been maybe two or three others who even got mentioned after they were dead, out of all the dozens of people who've died.

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-12-21 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
What what what what what what what what?!? What.

But he can mourn for Sam and Cas???

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, to be honest. I've been watching from the start and the whole series has just become 'Sam and Dean make bad choices for each other, here are the consequences'. At least up through season 5 (where it should've ended, I think) it had variations, because even though that was a major theme, there were still other things going on. But I'm also starting to get tired of it. (Especially because Kevin had become my favorite character)

Secret 6 - Supernatural (warning for SPOILERS)

spoilers for Supernatural

[Picture is Sam and Dean Winchester from the TV series "Supernatural". They are two men with light skin and brown hair wearing casual clothes like denim jackets standing looking confused and/or upset at something with several tall trees behind them, during nighttime.]

I've stuck by this show for so long, through the good and the bad. But damn. I'm ready for Sam and Dean to kick the bucket. This time for good.

I'm tired of seeing them making all of these suspect deals because they can't live without one another. And someone is always caught in the crossfire. (This time it was poor Kevin.)

Fuck Sam and Dean. They're awful people and they're the reason I don't enjoy the show anymore.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm inclined to find Sam mostly innocent in the latest debacle -- he wanted to stay dead and have no one else be hurt because of him, but listened to Dean instead.

But it is very frustrating how everyone in the show seems to be nearly incapable of learning from mistakes. Or sometimes they seem to, but then backslide a season or two later. Or maybe that's the writers.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kind of agree. Although this season is mostly on Dean's head; Sam, after all, wanted to be dead and STAY dead. It was Dean who fucked that up because he couldn't live without his brother.

Sam seems more content to let things go. He let Dean go when Dean was zapped into purgatory and didn't look for him (which, tbh, I found rather awful) and tried to move on with his life and have something normal.

Dean has serious, serious issues that just get creepier as the show goes on.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I'd go quite that far, but damn, Dean has started to annoy me. Sam at least is good at forgiving and believing in people even when they disappoint him, and at not making every goddamn thing about what he wants and needs above all else. But every time I think Dean is actually starting to get over his shit and grow up and move on a little, he backslides and we get stuff like alienated homeless Cas, hijacked Sam and dead Kevin. Bleh.

Now if Dean actually DOES LEARN this time and gets off his moral high horse, which is something I've thought needed to happen to him for a long long time, we might get somewhere. Not really holding my breath, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I love the show but this season has been pissing me off. They are going through all that same shit over again just dressed up as something different. I really wish they had stopped already, perhaps at the point when Sam when to hell & Dean nicked off with Lisa or perhaps at the point where Dean was in Purgatory & Sam settled down with Amelia. IDK but it really needs to be over now.
