I'm not an expert on Elizabethan lingo so what would happen if she 'merried' him?

I don't know - always thought getting 'merried' was more of a Victorian kink.

Well in the Elizabethan era, "merry" was a mild oath meaning "by the Virgin Mary." So maybe the Virgin Queen did indeed merry him!
