Good for you, OP. I hope you keep having fun.

Go for it! :) I know when I find an author I like, I'm glad they keep writing what they love.

Dude, no.

Don't ever feel bad for writing what you want and having fun. Fuck the haters.

Ah it's okay. In fact, for tiny fandoms, making other fans annoyed with you and your preferences is one of the best ways to inspire THEM to produce more fic in more variety!
pantswarrior: Dear characters: I'm nicer to you than the canon. (author is nice)

Hahah, this is true. Once there was exactly one fic for one of my "I like them but haven't written them yet" rarepairs on ff.net, and it was TERRIBLE. Characterization was so far off, the "plot" was insipid, and I went "They deserve better than this" and sat down that night to write my own. A couple friends who were similarly horrified did likewise.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you OP, that is how I fandom. My fic are always the "worst" in tiny fandoms. I can't help what I find interesting though, so I try to tag them well. (As in tidy, not tumblr style.)

Go you OP! I have a tiny fandom too.(There's like two other people wiring fic for it.) I love writing for my fandom, and plastering my OTP fanfic all over it.

We are nearly the same, although I never even though about readers getting sick of my shippy fic until I got a review where someone complained that me writing about my OTP was getting boring, but the fic I was currently writing great because it was different.(I hadn't gotten to the shippy parts yet.) So I when I got to the shippy parts I made it even more shippy than I had originally intended, because fuck you. If you don't want to read about my OTP read something else.

There is nothing icky about being a shipper or writing what interests you! I mean, yea, not everyone is into fic centered around pairings, but those people don't have to read your fic either. I'm sure your audience, however big or small, appreciate that you continue writing and producing something for the fandom.

Lol that's essentially me, only with a friendship!otp and a fandom where I'm literally the only writer. Though I like writing plotty stuff, the aimlessly fluffy/angsty parts are so much fun ^_^

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I try not to write directly from my id too often, because my id is a scary place and it's not safe to go down there. But in my tiny fandoms, hell yes, I'm writing what I want. I mean, you might as well, right? If you're going to share something that few enough people are going to read, you might as well write the things that interest you.

Enjoy fandom how you want, nothing wrong with that(and there are bound to be others who will be happy to get some more fic too).

I sometimes wonder if people find the RP Valandhir and I do of Raven's Blade Kíli/Boromir plus Kíli+Silmaril siblings and Silmaril/Kíli's son boring and annoying...

But she and I have piles of fun RPing our shared OTP and how my Silmaril fits into the family.

Secret 1 - Small fandoms

[Picture is green text over a blank black background.]

Sometimes I feel guilty that I'm getting my icky shipper feelings and id all over my tiny fandom that almost no one else writes fic for.

Then I actually sit down to write some more of my favorite characters being awesome assholes together and realize I don't give a fuck, because this is the most fun I've had writing in years.

... I do worry that the whole one or two people who actually read the fic will get tired of me though.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, OP, high five. I'm writing crossover shipfic in a tiny fandom and having a blast. If people don't want to read it, I figure they can just not read it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 07:40 am (UTC)(link)

What does this secret mean? You feel guilty about writing shippy fic instead of Gen? Don't be.

If you're one of the only people actively writing for this fandom, I'd say you deserve credit for that. If people want a different type of fic, let *them* write it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Go OP! Don't feel "icky" for writing things that interest you or shipping what you wanna ship. I've the same situation; tiny fandom with like, two people beside me who ship my OTP. I will shamelessly write and ship the pair as much as I like, even if it annoys others. :) Fandom is for having fun, so don't feel bad about it!
aralias: (blogging at the end of the universe)

[personal profile] aralias 2013-12-22 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
i feel quite similar about my fandom! but at the same time - i didn't write for ages (like you seem to have) and now i want to, and the reason i want to is largely... my ship. and that's how i've always done fandom really. 60% OTP to some gen. it wasn't so noticably in doctor who because it was a massive fandom and other people were writing a whole load of other stuff - still, i do think: being able to write is important. and you can only really write what you want to write when you're in fandom and love of what you're writing is pretty much the main inducement...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
lmao. I was doing internet cruising, saw this, and instantly, irrationally thought, "I hope that's not aralias making that secret, because I don't care if we don't share OTPs, she writes GOOD FIC and I want to read all of it forever."

But luckily it isn't. WRITE ON!
aralias: (blake and avon)

[personal profile] aralias 2014-01-05 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
aha. thank you, anon. this is a lovely comment to get (or at least it was once my brain kicked into gear and i was able to process what you'd actually said instead of what i initially read, which was 'i hope that's not aralias'. i am apparently fairly paranoid at 8am). i certainly hope to!

*goes away to finish yet another 5-figure b/a fic*

You're having fun writing, that's all the reason you need for doing so.
If people in your fandom enjoy it, then more people are having fun and it's good.

If people in your fandom don't enjoy it, then they can either search for something else or write their own.

Any activity is good for a tiny fandom, it's what makes people keep coming back and maybe want to contribute, too.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably wishful thinking, but the colours and text make me wonder if you aren't talking about my tiny fandom. Even if I am not one of the whole one or two people who actually reads the fic, I still want to say I'll never get tired of you. ♥

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Secret OP

*cough* Well, I did choose the font/color on purpose, so - I suspect you may have found me... ♥ and thank you, anon, and thanks to everyone else in the thread, too.
