Not all blondes have light eyebrows

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
But people with that complexion and hair color exist in real life. It's not like all blondes have light body hair.

Storytime: There was this girl in my class growing up that had the blondest of blonde hair, but she had essentially Lee Pace dark eyebrows, dark arm hair, and later a visible dark mustache. People used to give her such shit about it. Taunting her and telling her if she was going to dye her hair at least dye the rest to match. Which is dumb, since she's been like that since pre-K and obvs didn't dye anything. She also had really pale skin so that didn't really help the whole dark body hair thing.

I was about to say, I've had not one but at three classmates at different points in my school career who've had light blonde hair and very dark eyebrows. It really isn't that weird/unattractive, just uncommon (at least for where I've gone to school).

Yeah, I've met several people like this, too. I've also got several blonde/redheaded friends who will color in their eyebrows with brow powder because the brows are so light that people make rude comments about thinking they don't have eyebrows or look like aliens or some dumb stuff.

Further evidence that nobody wins with shitty beauty standards, I guess. But I'd say the dark-brows/light-hair combo makes sense aesthetically for movies if we think browless people look too strange or aren't as expressive.

The other thing about light eyebrows from a movie standpoint is that harsh film lighting will often make them look even lighter than they are. Even brunettes can have eyebrows that are lighter/sparser than their hair color; just look at the "no eyebrows" comments Matt Smith gets. They don't darken them on screen afaik, and with his prominent brow bones, the light eyebrows play into his "alien" characterization in a very subtle way.

Male blonds especially don't always have pale eyebrows. Weirdly, my brother got blond hair and darker eyebrows and stubble, but I got light brown hair with invisible eyebrows and eyelashes.

I have the reverse version of this: dark-ish brown hair on my head, very light blond eyebrows, arm hair, leg hair, etc. everywhere else.

People should be less presumptuous and more aware that genetics are a crazy thing.
