This is one of those cases where I really don't understand the complaints about casting Menzel. It seems like people have a hard time separating her from Wicked, which is both funny and kind of stupid. The target group for this movie is not people old enough to have seen Menzel on Broadway, and she has a strong and distinctive voice. Of course people want her to be a voice actress.

I'm old enough to have seen Wicked on stage, but never have. I'm sure that when I do, I'll be having the opposite problem that people are complaining about here: to me it will be Wicked: starting Elsa the Snow Queen, lol!
caecilia: (more of these two)

Idina was just in the original Broadway cast (so if you listen to music from the CD, that's her), but Elphaba is currently played by Lindsay Mendez on Broadway, and Alison Luff, and Jennifer Dinoia on the tours. I forget who I saw when I went and I'm not sure where my program is, but she was excellent.

How is it funny and/or stupid? I have terrible facial recognition and I rely mostly on voices - for which I have a very good memory - to recognise people. And it's really not about "I've seen her on Broadway" - the only CD recording of Wicked I own and know of has Menzel in the role of Elphaba. So I will automatically connect her distinct voice to that role, no matter what. And so will a lot of other people who only own that CD and were never able to see her on Broadway.

So what do you propose? She never gets another role again? All actors can only play one character? I get that it's weird for you but...
