I relate to this so much! My current favorite is pretty much the same - almost nothing would exist about him in fandom if it wasn't for me. But I've tried to be as prolific as possible, and I track his tag (and related tags) on Tumblr, so I've met - and converted! - a few other fans that way. Even if you don't think you're a good writer/artist you could try just posting headcanons, meta and so on (and tagging it in the main fandom if you're on tumblr). You may be surprised at how well that works if you keep at it - there could well be other fans out there, and speaking up might inspire more fanwork.

Also when I get a big craving for my favorite I go looking for other stuff his voice actor has done. I don't know what medium your character is in so that kind of thing might not work for you though. (Maybe try fan casting if it's a prose only thing?)
