Oh is that really why Mark is now charging for videos?

I thought it was just because he needed more money to keep the sites going.

If he had issues with people posting preemptive links they I would have thought he'd have just talked to the people doing it and they would have stopped and the mods at markspoils would have enforced it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Mark's charging because it was too expensive to not given how many people were downloading.I think OP is saying not as many people would download if preemptive links weren't an option.

That... doesn't make sense to me. Idk. I think that people who care enough to download videos before Mark posts them would download anyway.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm legit surprised that people still read/watch this dude, I quit back when there weren't any videos and he just blogged about things he read. I've never seen someone go from funny and likable to unbearable so quickly. It was almost impressive

He really is hard to read. I don't find him funny at all, now he's just a KEYBOARD SMASHING OH MY GOD OH MY GOD overreacting to the smallest things, when he's not busy being the biggest SJW on the planet.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The videos are a chore. I don't know why anyone would pay for them. SON especially is mostly a lot of "NOPE!" "You're dead," and "I don't get it..." and half the time I'm like "it's five minutes into the episode! NOBODY gets it yet. You're NOT SUPPOSED TO GR T IT YET." And the other half it's like "maybe if you'd stfu you wouldn't ha e missed that critical piece of dialogue."

Haha I could picture that! I've never seen one of his videos, and I have no desire to. I just don't get the draw of him.

Wait, so what's this whole policy/drama with his videos? I haven't been to his sites in over a year.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It went from all his Watches videos being free to only current seasons being free to every one costing 99 cents. But the price is cheaper if you buy 'in bulk' (a reduced price gift card) and everyone who buys an episode gets 10 free downloads of it to share with other people. People who actually commissioned the video get the download free and 25 free downloads to share.

And all of that seems pretty generous and accommodating of the less fortunate when you consider more than 13,500 free videos were downloaded last month and only 120 purchased. The bandwidth alone for this project put him $6k in debt.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say that this is just silly nonsense and the same people would be watching videos whether they got them a week early or not, but I'm so mad at that place right now that I'll happily go with your theory.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you the person from a couple days ago who made the late comment about disappointing developments? I asked you a question back then if so.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes to this and your other question.

I haven't been around in a while because I have zero interest in Supernatural and I watched TWW months ago in a bit of a marthoning haze and I can't remember things enough to comment on episodes.

I did start watching Veronica Mars so I might be commenting again soon.

Anyway, the point is I don't know much of what has been going on. Why are you mad?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a long story, but apparently one bad day where I make some unfortunate comments in the heat of the moment after misunderstanding some original comments makes me scum who creates unsafe places, just because I don't think it's reasonable to make blanket statements about people, regardless of whether or not they're of the Oppressor Gender nor am I willing to lament my sorry lot in life that I must have since I'm a woman who partakes of fandom.

And that verging on radfemanon attitude is bad enough, but it's not ever-present, so I usually just ignore it when it pops up and stay out of fights. But things just came together that day that made me forget that cardinal rule, and I offended a bunch of people and ended up banned, because clearly those three comments that I made are indicative of me being the sort of person who will just come in with derailing tactics and make everything horrible for everyone, I must be banned.

Never mind that I've 9 months and nearly 600 comments with no problems, those three make me an unsafe monster, so GTFO. Sorry, didn't mean this to turn into a novel, but I guess not being able to say anything makes me want to say everything.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
my judgement of the situation really depends on how "unfortunate" those comments were. I mean, if it was something pretty fucked up then I could see why you were banned. Context is key here

I've mostly gone back to being anon around these parts and avoiding that other place altogether, but your comments make me want to log in. As someone whose had an eerily similar experience, the best thing I can say to you is you have to let them go. I didn't recognize it at the time, but when I was having my blowout with that community, I was in the beginning stages of what became a pretty deep depression. They obviously didn't cause it -- depression doesn't need a reason to turn your life to shit -- but that experience certainly didn't help.

And you've just got to let it go, because carrying around a bunch of anger isn't a good for you. Recognize that it's a place where a handful of "unacceptable" comments overwrite months of good times, and where words all of a sudden stop being thoughts of a real person and start being tactics of an enemy. They need enemies so they can feel like heroes. It was actually Noodles here who helped me realize when it happened to me that they wouldn't let me apologize and they certainly won't forgive me, and for a long time that really hurt. But you know whose problem that is?

Theirs. It's not mine, and it's not yours, it's theirs.

So mourn what you've lost -- it always sucks to lose a sense of a community, especially if you're kind of a loner offline -- but then find some new blogs. Don't let that loss have power over you. Don't give THEM that power over you. Watch a new show. Follow some fun celebs on Twitter or read a book. Start your own blog or pick up a new hobby. Find something that will take your mind off of that place until you can think about it without being angry or feeling hurt. Because left to run unchecked, those feelings can fester and become toxic. That place isn't worth that, and you're worth more than that (and so am I).

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
This is a really nice comment.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I would nominate this for "comment of the day" if we had such a thing

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
So in other words you made a rape joke or something similar and made women feel unsafe and now your crying male tears?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Or used the word crazy once. They do overreact to a lot of things.

they're a woman that can cry male tears? how does that work? did they have an emergency tear duct transplant surgery and their new tear ducts came from some MRA?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-23 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
No, I said I can call out assholery without condemning an entire group to the assholes label. And then the admittedly truly offensive in hindsight comment was that I didn't want to get into an 'oh us poor women' fight. Because I'm tired of being told I should feel like I'm being held down by men because CLEARLY WE ALL ARE.

Secret 5 - Mark Watches (reviewer)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-22 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture from a webiste showing a list of "pre-emptive" links for upcoming reviews the blogger/reviewer Mark from "Mark Watches" will do, and a photograph of him? Showing a man with light skin and short black hair and a slight beard and mustache wearing a black T-shirt which in turn has a photograph of two men posing together under a banner that says "PSYCHBILL"?.]

I feel kind of like "SPOILS" spoiled free videos. I know it doesn't take THAT MUCH work to paste an old URL into the bar and change some numbers, but I bet there are a tonne of people who wouldn't do that or re-watch an episode after the post goes live if the pre-emptive links weren't an option.

I don't MIND paying, because I feel like Mark's gone out of his way to keep them cheap and provide ways for people to view for free at the mercy of others, but I just feel this way anyway.
