It is, indeed, regrettable - though understandable - that the size difference is that much of a concern to these authors (apparently? It's not like I read any Thorin/OFC fic), but I feel like it would be Thorin who would have a major problem with being the shorter party. Even the film!version; as to the character from the book canon, I cannot so much as imagine him being in a relationship with somebody significantly taller than him, let alone of another race. He has such an exaggerated sense of pride.

What is the issue with being a dwarf OFC anyway? Is it because they're not "pretty" compared to elves or humans? Actually, I think I already know the answer to that.

I mean people are free to write what they want to write but it seems to me that if authors want Thorin to be tallest of the two (and ignore the fact he would generally be shorter than an elf or human), it would cut out a lot of the awkward "she was very short for an elf" stuff if they just made their OFC a dwarf.

I now really want to see some female dwarves. Not even necessarily as romantic partners but just in general because I haven't seen them much. I want descriptions of their pretty beards and I want to know what they've been up to while Thorin and the others are away.

there's a great fanfic called the toymaker and the widow. Bofur's the love interest, but it's got one of the best OC's i've ever seen, and she's a dwarf.

And all these years I thought it was my awful personality that kept me from getting laid... seriously, I wonder how much abuse I'd get if I let my facial hair fulfill its destiny and grew a beard. I should get some armor and an axe and go to cons as Cheri Littlebottom. Except I think I'm about Thorin's height (he's 5", right?), so I'd be unusually tall for a female dwarf.

This just makes me want to post my Thorin/OFC Everyone Lives Dammit fic, wherein he ends up falling for a friend of Dis's with lovely wispy blonde locks right down to sideburns and chin tuft. There was a whole thing where she'd been young when her father scooped her up and fled Erebor and he'd always talked about returning and her memories of Erebor were hazy but her father hadn't lived to return with her when they put out the call to come back and. So on and so forth.

(I have no idea why wispy and blonde, but I made a point of describing the sideburns and beard.)
