I'm in the SNK fandom and I hate basically... all the shippers.

The Erwin/Levi shippers just write BDSM forever, size kink, daddy kink, like can we get some characterization please? If you're at all vanilla you'll have to stay the hell away. And yet they are insufferably smug and view themselves as so intelligent, make lots of posts about how the ship is 'totally canon', and thought that Erwin having Levi beaten was omg so hawt so shippy kyaa but call all the Eren/Levi shippers sick fucks.

Then the Eren/Levi shippers just write crappy OOC AUs all over, because apparently all the characterization they want is older dude who says 'brat' a lot paired with younger cute dude the end. At least they aren't quite as smug, just dumb.

IDK those are the main pairings and the main ones that piss me off. It's a shame 'cause I could get behind both pairings theoretically but idk if there are any sane fans at all.

...yeah, I was going to get into the Erwin/Levi side of things once I finish all my exchange fics for other fandoms, but I'm seriously reconsidering that decision because of your description. Not my cup of tea at all. :/

:< sorry for turning you off, obviously this is just my personal experience, but I truly am frustrated. I don't mind some kink, but why is EVERYTHING kink? And like I said, I find them very smug. But perhaps you'll manage to find a quiet, sane corner?

I'll probably still give it a go, but I'm not sure how successful I'll be since it sounds like the fandom caters to a lot of my major squicks. Oh well--wish me luck.

Ah, you and me both. Though, if you filter out the smut on Ao3, for example, you can probably avoid the worst of them. On the other hand, be prepared for a lot of AU...

I hate how every other fic in this fandom (for all ships) is a stripper/prostitute AU. It's getting so ridiculous.
Could be I'm out of touch and all fandoms are like this, though.

Oh my god, I love Erwin/Levi, but I am dying of laughter at how true your description of the shippers are. Damn. Sometimes it feels like Eruri fandom is either the smug kink people, or the fluffy domestic yaoi-stereotypes loving people.
BUT. It's still not even half as bad as some of the other ship fandoms I've been in. And the quality of the fanart and fic that comes out for the pairing is really good, and not everyone is insufferable (tentative Eruri shippers, please don't run away without giving the pairing a chance first !!)

I'm just telling it like I see it ;)
I guess I've been spoiled by my other fandoms... it's my first time shipping a major pairing, and it's a lot more intimidating than shipping the much smaller ones (where I think fans tend to be a bit saner and less monolithic, tbh). I agree with you that the quality's pretty good (though again, kink everywhere. I just want to meet another mostly-vanilla fan TAT)
