Re: Annoying shipper attitudes?

Pairing the spares. I hate it when shippers *need* to pair off everyone else no matter how far into the blue haze of the background they are. I want to read about the ship the fic says is the main pairing, not veer off and have half or more of it about other ships.

Oh god, this so fucking much. I hate when I'm reading a fic and suddenly there's several chapters devoted to a pairing I don't give a shit about.

It's really annoying (not everything needs to be tied up with a neat little bow in every story!) and also just kind of odd that people will write in a bunch of non-canon ships without actually bothering to develop or explore them just so they can say "everybody lived happily ever after" (never mind that in order to live happily ever after, some of these people might be better off not paired up with each other).

I'm like, "Okay, so you just spent multiple chapters getting John and Sherlock together, having them discuss their feelings in great detail, putting them through all kinds of tortuous angst and everything... and meanwhile Mycroft and Lestrade are apparently just banging each other in the background because why the fuck not?" It's really weird that they are so frequently paired up in the background of John/Sherlock fics but their relationship is not delved into and often the author appears to have never posted any straight up Mycroft/Lestrade fic. I mean, are you a fan of this pairing or did you just feel obligated to toss it in there?

It's like there's a box you need to check. "Has this story been proof-read for typos? Y/N Did you remember to pair up Mycroft and Lestrade? Y/N."
