Re: "I don't wear it for you"?
For example, it's accepted that in certain contexts women wear makeup. I put on makeup mostly because I want to "look nice" in that context, however, the type of makeup I put on is what I like. I like bright eyeliners, and I couldn't give a fuck if somebody else doesn't.
Or for example, if I'm going out with friends I'll dress up, but the clothes I choose are in a style that I prefer, and I don't choose what some nebulous male on the street with find attractive - I choose what I personally like to wear.
tl;dr there is a lot of leeway within what society constitutes as "dressing up", and my personal choice within that spectrum reflects what I like and think looks good on me, and not necessarily what others would like.
