Ho Ho No

[personal profile] dethtoll 2013-12-24 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
So my mother made a huge deal about how I shouldn't ask for presents this year because we're short on money. By "huge deal" I mean she browbeat and berated me and basically screamed at me for hours on end on how I was an ingrate and a disappointment because there was something I wanted. It's been going on all month and I'm at the point where I want to nuke the very concept of Christmas from the face of the earth, as if I didn't hate this dickhammer holiday enough already.

Tonight she gives me a huge stack of presents she bought for herself and tells me to wrap them. This after she kind of gave me shit earlier today for buying myself one thing (the item I wanted.) After I'd gotten everyone else's gifts anyway, and I had some birthday money.

The shit I put up with, man. When's January?

what the everloving shit, man.

I would join you in nuking the concept of christmas right off the face of the earth and then merrily skip through the charred ruins with you. particularly after the shit my rich, entitled sister laid on me today.

oh fine. see, I'm not well off at all, but I make ends meet unless there's an emergency. today, I had an emergency. my car broke down, and I'm not sure I can get it fixed in time to go visit my family out of town. the rest of them understand. entitled sister told me it was a disaster because she bought me SO MANY PRESENTS this year and wants to give them to me in person so I should spend every penny I don't have to get it fixed, or rent a car on christmas eve. and then lols at my inability to afford a garage and says she could have bought me jumper cables for christmas instead.

there was just so much wrong with how she took everything that can't be conveyed without knowing my family but ugh. she's the same one who refuses to get me gift cards to places I actually frequent because she thinks a gift should be something that can be physically wrapped and then unwrapped by the recipient.

I dislike Christmas more and more with every year that goes by.

That said, my reasons for disliking it pale in comparison to yours.

I'm sorry that your mother is a twatwaffle. My hope is that you find some way to have a really awesome time without her, whether it be today or tomorrow or next week.

OMG, the sheer entitlement in expecting someone else to wrap stuff she bought solely for herself... /boggle

Re: Ho Ho No

(Anonymous) 2013-12-24 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I suggest wrapping her presents in incredibly inappropriate and/or depressing paper. Like ads for the Children's Miracle Network or some CDC disease statistics printouts.

Also, who the fuck buys presents for themselves? And wants them wrapped?

Re: Ho Ho No

(Anonymous) 2013-12-24 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I second this!

(I've bought presents for myself, but I don't expect other people to wrap them for me!)

half trolling here

Power play or menopause?

Also why do you *have* to wrap *her* presents?

"Wrap" that shit in a trash bag. If you're feeling festive, stick a bow on it. JFC.

Re: Ho Ho No

Wrap them and give them to other people. :p

The fuck. Don't wrap them.

I'm with you on nuking this holiday. I'm fine with birthdays but Christmas gets on my nerves.

(Also I forgot we shared a birthday.)

I am all in support of you nuking Christmass if that's the way your mother treated you.

I say this from the POV of someone who has a very relaxed view of the whole gift-giving thing, and a mother (whom I live with) who ha sthe same relaxed POV. We basically take everythign that is not absolutely needed this very minute that comes into the house from about mid November and wrap it up. It doesn't matter if it's something we bought for ourselves, we still wrap it. We have no problems with actually asking what the other wants for Xmas, and no problems with gift cards or even just straight money (I am terrible for making up my mind on things, so money makes it easy).

So, from my POV, your mother's POV is absolutely ridiculous and I fully understand why you're sick of that shit.

(I also hate having to play nice when I get presents that are totally and utterly irrelevant to my interests. I'd rather gift cards or cash.)
