Actually, it was just one person, who clearly needed help, and everyone basically bailed on this person. Including me. :-( And then it escalated.....

Hm, small fandom I guess? I still seriously doubt you could have changed much. It sounds like mental illness is involved here, and that's the kind of thing that is really hard to help over the internet.

But even that is making a lot of assumptions about what sounds like a very complicated situation, so I'm just gonna say that everyone else who was involved (and of sound mind, etc) was responsible for whatever bad decisions they may have made. This isn't all on you.
