I thought it was sad enough, but I wasn't overly attached to her as a character because it seemed like the author was going out of her way to make Rue as angelic and innocent as possible so her death would pack a real emotional punch. Of course I understand why this was done and it served a purpose in the story so I can't really fault it but I generally don't respond much to that kind of emotional manipulation. ngl though, I almost bawled in the theater during Catching Fire when Katniss was talking to Rue's family about how she was her friend

Yeah, I think that's most of my reason too. It was just too 'textbook sad' coupled with the expectedness of it that it fell kinda flat. Which I'm kinda glad for, because there are enough deaths in THG to get upset over.
