But let's be real, if you claim Glimmer is more interesting than Rue then you're just trying to be a special snowflake and/or rile people up. She's pretty and can't shoot well with a bow. sew interesting~

I think that's an example of a character who is paper-thin in what is actually shown but becomes interesting in context -- the morally complex issue of Careers, the deliberate sexualization of teenagers for marketing purposes. Rue has more characterization as an individual, but her context -- innocent kid, oppressed, impoverished -- is less sensational.

Hm, that's a good point. I appreciated Rue as a character and felt more sympathy for her death than for those of the Careers, but I agree that the Careers are more interesting (I especially like the extra lines that Cato was given in the end of the movie that showed that he wasn't the ruthless psychopath that he came off as in the book) even if they aren't as likable.

That doesn't make her character interesting though, it makes the world interesting I'd say. These things you mention aren't on Glimmer to convey - for the Career issue there's Cato much more fleshed out and for the sexualization Katniss talks plenty about how afraid she is that she'll have to ride the chariot naked.
