Because it doesn't feel nice or heartwarming when someone makes a decision that's "for your own good" when you are an adult who is perfectly capable of making your own decisions. It can be a gesture that has all the best intentions in the world, but when you come right down to it, it's a gesture that says, "I have decided that you aren't capable of choosing what's best for yourself, so I will remove that choice from your hands."
